Python and Brooks are so different, it's hard to compare. My vote goes to the Python weirdos, but Brooks as a director and producer is also outstanding. Never cared for him as an actor, though.

But then, I always look on the bright side of life, even when I'm depressed and pining for the fjords. And while I believe that every sperm is sacred, that's just my opinion. And you know what? I'm a lumberjack, and that's OK>

mel brooks goes out of his way to explain every joke immediately after the punchline, so as to not confuse the idiots watching. every joke is over played, and over acted. while he had the occasional moment, most of his humor is sophomoric and obvious.

Anyone see the final episode of curb your enthsiasm of season 4 (or was it 5?) with mel brooks. The most creative episode i ever so. he was using larry david to be Max b. You wondered all along why he would use him for the producers. When the play starts you see him mess up. Mel brooks than basically did the actually same thing they did in the producers. What a lopsided poll No question it's Monty Python over Mel Brooks.

However, anything Mel Brooks did with Gene Wilder ranks up there as being some of the greatest comedy films ever made. Wilder was instrumental in Brooks' most successful films. Gene co-starred in The Producers and Blazing Saddles (which was also co-written by Richard Pryor). Gene also co-wrote and starred in Young Frankenstein, arguably Brooks' best film. You can see Wilder's talent and clever wit at work by two other films which he co-wrote and starred in, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother and the The World's Greatest Lover.

Brooks movies are better today though. Many of the python-movies seem a bit slow by todays standards methinks. Spaceballs is a great movie.

Favorite python moment for me: The special olympics, with classics like 100 m race for people with no sense of direction, football for philosophers, 200 m butterfly for people who can't swim or 110 m hurdles for people thinking they're chicken...

Please try to relax. Although his comment is partly true, in my opinion, i don't think that he's expressing any anti-americanism with that comment.
He's probably just criticising the media for underestimating their public, which is something that happens everywhere, including america.

Brooks made two good films. The first 2/3 of Blazing Saddles was great. Young Frankenstein was great all the way through (the only Brooks film, other than The Producers with a good ending, in my opinion).

But Python is the Beatles of comedy, in a league of their own.
