The following is the story of my current Victoria - Empire under the sun game. Victoria is Paradox's latest game and set during the victorian era http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

In 1830 the unification of the Low Countries under the House of Orange came to an end. The instability of the new state was revealed when the Belgians rose up against the House of Orange in August 1830.

We join their fight in January 1836,with the Dutch about to invade Belgium. Belgium currently borders Holland along the Eastern and Northern borders. Her military is made up of 30,000 infantry and 10,000 Cavalry, and the navy is a massive three ships. In comparison the Dutch also have 30,000 infantry and 10,000 Cavalry, however more can be summoned from the colonies. The Dutch Navy is made up of 22 ships, of which 19 are warships.

The nation of Belgium has a population of 3.768 million people, 66% are Flemish and 32% French. The religion is Catholic and the workforce are mainly either Labourers or Farmers.

This tiny state faces a Dutch population of 13.324 million people, however only 3.5 million are located in Holland; the remainder are in the colonies. If Belgium can threaten the Dutch homeland with enough force, The Dutch might agree to her full independence, before reinforcement can arrive, to crush the rebellion.

ALL QUIET ON THE EASTERN FRONT - not

The ruling Belgium government, the Katholieke Partij, changes the technological research programme to an ‘Army-Industrial’ based system and initiates research into ‘Army Professionalism.’ The research is to be completed by January 1837.

In preparation for the ensuring conflict, 6 divisions are mobilized, they are expected to arrive in late march. The current forces will be required to hold position until the reinforcements arrive. Current funds available are £8000

The army of Berghmans, some 10,000 men in number and located in the province of Liege, march towards Maastrict to engage the Dutch defenders. They are expected to arrive by mid February.

The army of Willems, some 10,000 cavalry in number are located in Namur. They are also ordered to engage the Dutch enemy in Maastricht and are expected to arrive in Mid January.

The remaining two armies, located in Brussels and Gent are expected to hold their positions.

Willems army arrive in Maastrucht on the 19th January, the defending army has matched west to Hasselt. News is received, that a Dutch Cavalry force has invaded Antwerpen.

Maastrict after a brief resistance falls in early March, the victorious armies march west to the defence of Hasselt. On the 27th of March a Belgium cavalry force engage a Dutch infantry division, the outcome is another victory and the Dutch force retreats.

In late May 1836, after aggressive diplomacy mainly on the part of Great Britain, Vilhelm I of the Netherlands is forced into recognizing the independence of Belgium, effectively ending the conflict. The outcome is the Birth of an independent Belgium.

THE NEW BELGIUM An east-west divide

http://www.shadesmtw.com/AAR/eastwest.jpg

The nation of Belgium is made up of 10 provinces; these are split into three regions Vlaandern, Wallonia and Arlon. Each province has a unique resource, and it quickly becomes apparent that the nation has an east-west divide.

The more eastern Province, Vlaandern, is more of a rural setting however; it does contain the nations capital, Brussels. The region contains the nations Grain, Wool, Cattle and Sulphur resource, along with a small coalfield.

Vlanndern also has three factories producing Fabric, Canned Food and Cement. Finally the nations only rail link runs from Anterpen to Brussels. This is an experimental railroad, but the link has improved the provinces infrastructure and a noticeable efficiency increase has been achieved.

The Population of the five provinces of Vlaandern is 2.8m. However, over 1 million of these live in Brussel.

The most western region, Wallonia, in contrast is an industrial backdrop and contains the mining land. The region contains two Coal mines and two Iron ore fields. Wallonia also has three factories, producing Steel, ammunition and Small arms.

The population of the four provinces of Willonia is 1.16 million people.

The final region is the single province of Arlon, this province has the nations only timber resource, it has no factories and a small population of 157,000 people.

The only access to the sea is threw the province of Brugge, which is situated in the region of Vlaandern.

Belgium is blessed with large quantities of raw resources. Coal and Iron are the raw materials of steel. Steel is an important tradable commodity and is used in the production of weapons, railways and a wide range of other buildings and items.

The population of Belgium now totals 4.149 million. The largest percentages are Flemish (58%), then French (39%.) The population is mainly catholic and the workforce is distributed as follows:

49.6% - Labourers.
23.5% - Farmers
08.9% - Craftsmen
06.8% - Soldiers
04.9 % - Capitalists
04.0% - Clerks

## the following are only brief nots and will be re-wrote##
To increase the raw material available as resource the government has decided to create an overseas empire. On February 21st 1836 the Navy with 3500 troops onboard, set sail for the Caribbean, the target is the island of Haiti, as it is rich in tobacco.

The Navy arrived off the north cost by april 10th, however and a diplomat was sent to inform the Haitian governement that we were about to declare war on them. The force land outside Santo Domingo on April 30th and laid siege to the province. A further 7400 troops are sent for in July, these arrive in late august and join the siege. By October the province has been liberated and is now 100% under your occupation.

The army then march across island towards the captal to complete the battle and the10,000 defenders in the capital. The Belgium army under Berghman totalling 9500 engage the Haitian army of Larque totalling 10,000 men on November 12 the conflict goes onto December 28, when the Haitian army surrender. The capital is then laid siege to, it surrenders on februray 1837 after 11 months of warfare, Haiti has been conquered. The nation is Annexed on February 24th 1837 into the Belgium empire.

That game looks cool. Is the campmap RT or turnbased? And can you fight the battles or are they simulated?

The game is RT and the battles are simulated http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif
