Well I'm bored with most of the games I have. I'm most interested in an RPG style of game. Usually I only buy games when I can get them dirtcheap and there are only 2 games I have ever payed for the origanl retail price for instead of waiting for them to drop those 2 are Diablo 2 and MTW plus the expansion.

The only style I'm leaving out for sure is FPS style games.

All prices are in U.S dollars

I took a trip to the store and looked over the different products. 1 game that caught my eye was shadowbane @ compusa for 2.88 . At this price makes me wonder how good the game is but I should have picked it up anyways and if I did'nt like it no big deal as I could not even buy lunch with that amount. I think I'll get it anyways if I swing that direction again. I saw spellforce wich caught my eye the most but when I looked at there website it did'nt seem all that appealing. I think it will be just like any typical game where it drops down 20 bucks after a few months but right now is selling for 49.99 I prefer not to pay so much for a game but I'm tired of buying 10 dollar games playing them for a few weeks and then off it goes to collect dust on the shelf. I did like Diablo 2 but thought it got a bit ridiculous with the expansion when there were even more stats and items and not too much of an inventory to store all of this in. Found it way to tedious after this to have to look at your items and figure out wich 1 to boot from the inventory

Get Viewtifull Joe for the gamecube. It shames every modern game because it is so fun It is a 2d sidescroller beat'em up game with absolutely awesome animations and irresistable gameplay. It is the kind of game you want to play 'classy' because there are so many cool ways to beat up your enemy.

Ummm.... Efrem I saw the Morrowind game + Expansions and it would have come over $50.00 or even more Canadian. Thats about 40 or so American dollars. Just correcting a little Monetary exchange mistake lmao

However, I do agree with you that Morrowind is one of the best games you can get with your buck, keep you occupied for Months maybe/

Morrowind GOTY is 30 US, if you have the basic intelligence to type up a price search on the net. And if you don't, or if their is no location nearby, that sucks for you. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

Morrowind GOTY is game of the year addition. In aus you can get it cheaper than just one of the exansions on its own. ITs a great deal The original game and both expansions.

And by unamimous decision morrowind GOTY wins. Well I'll check out there site and see about mail ordering it.

Hey about the prices, no need to flame someone because they are off because they only took a guess. As I'm the one looking for the game an estimate is just fine for me it should be me doing the websearch for the price, the main reason for this topic was I was just looking for a good opinion

Hmmm. My post was meant to be a bit laconic, with some dry humor, but that didn't work off well. I was kinda hoping that the smiley might help things, as I usually don't use them, but apparently I shoulda added some http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif or http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif to make myself clear. Get a good flightstick.

Then buy IL2-Sturmovik or the sequel, IL2-Forgotten Battles with the ACE expansion pack.

Then fly.

Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours of great fun await you.

And you could always get Medieval:Total War. I hear it's a pretty good game. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

here's a game i've been playing the demo of. it's somewhat old, but i still find it amusing. it's not an rpg. it's a space game, turn based, and apparently can be played by mail as well as on a lan. not sure about internet play.

the game is space empires IV gold, from http://www.shrapnelgames.com

you wont go wow over the graphics or sound, but the game play is fun and allows for a fair amount of modding (if you have the full version). this is the sort of game i enjoy playing a few turns of each day. no big marathon sittings, but just some simple, fun play each day.

the demo version is limited to an overall 100 turns per game and is missing the bigger ships and extras, like battleships and larger fighters and cargo ships. nonetheless, i've found the demo enjoyable and am considering getting the full version.

i've also downloaded, but not installed yet, some other selections from shrapnel games. they seem to be an up and coming game distributor with a few good titles out there, but not as much press as some of the bigger distributors. worth a look.

Thanks for the tip, Krae. I'll check it out. Since the disaster that was MOO3 I haven't touched space strategies, but maybe it's time to give that genre another chance.

Shrapnel is an interesting, smallish, alternative developer. Of their games I've only played Dominions 2 so far, but it's an excellent title. Gotta keep an eye on Shrapnel. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Hi SilverKnight http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I looked forward to LOTR 3 for months but the signs were bad before it landed on our shores. Part of the developing team left the company during production; the price on launch was slashed; and; most reviews from the states were negative.

I had the game 1 day and took it back to the shop for my money back. The real time aspect didn't work for me as troops moved way too slow on the map. You could choose to intervene in battles at any point but when you did it appeared as if the battle was just starting with no combat taking place. The actual combat was way below the standard in MTW, at one point I had a soldier at the top of a ladder fighting a lone soldier of the enemy on the castle wall and although they were in combat motions they were too far apart and looked to be fighting invisible soldiers. Building up an army was also very difficult. I have looked on web-sites since and some who have persevered have got more enjoyment but to be honest I didn't want to continue with a game that fell way short of the hype and way short of MTW

Another game I am looking forward to is Knights of Honour if you want to keep an eye on it.

i second the nomination for Mafia

Mafia is most definitely the best PC game to have been released this Millenium. it is infinitely better than all GTA games, and received universal critical acclaim, with almost no professional review scores under 90%

just don't get the console versions cuz they suck compared to the PC version. you really NEED the PC version to experience the Mafia game properly

i HIGHLY recommend Mafia. and i think almost ALL games suck so when i recommend something, you can take it to the bank http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

DL'd the Space Empires IV demo plus got the manual for the full game. Deep is the first thing that comes to mind. and poor me thought that Dom 2 is a complicated game... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Not everyone's cup of tea but any 4X fan should give it a try.

about the only thing i didnt like about that demo, crand, was that i couldnt set up scenarios with differing levels of technology for each player. i wanted to pit all the AI's against me, but give me the edge in technology and let them be the mass invading hoards.

other than that, and the limits imposed by the demo version, it's pretty cool.

Lol, I met a friend and told him about the new, good 4X title... to find out that he's been playing it for about four years now. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Anyways, I exchanged a 12-pack for the Gold version of SE IV. Not a bad trade. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif And we even managed to find the manual.

Krae, I don't think you can set players to start with different technology levels but in the full version you can design the participating empires to create a marked difference in research capability. Given some time to develop, you could theoretically gain a huge technological edge over the barbarians.

The AI does its job, but it's not particularly dazzling. It'd be nice to get together a bunch of SEIV newbies for a PBEM game. You think you're getting the full version, Krae?

crand,

i dunno. prolly not. i'd have to set up a paypal or give them my credit card # and i'm always reluctant to do that, cause i've never seen this thing in the stores and havent been buying many computer games lately anyways. and i dont play pbem at all. i get too antsy waiting for a turn :) if it has an online networked setting i might think about that, though.

one thing i did note about the demo, they said that all modding had been disabled for the demo, which makes sense, but that the full version was very moddable. i looked at some of the files in the demo and it's all text, so it might be possible to mod what i want in the full version.

Krae, you could try to get a game store order it for you, like I did with Dominions 2. They didn't even charge anything extra, but then again I'm a fairly regular customer there. Edit: SEIV is an oldish game too, so ya might be able to acquire it from someone who's done with it. There is also no CD-key or similar measures involved, so getting a used game should be quite safe.

SEIV supports TCP/IP and yes, it's extremely moddable. The Gold version even has several of the best fan-made mods included right out of the box, and a modding tutorial to boot. I haven't fiddled with mods yet, but all data files seem to be text like ya said. Should be easy to do stuff with it.
