Acid (http://www.laweekly.com/ink/98/32/news-whalen.php)

Quote[/b] ]Hardly the suave repartee associated with the star of His Girl Friday and North by Northwest. But as the aging movie idol had already stated in bold public endorsements of the experimental drug, LSD had a way of stripping away cultivated veneers and forcing one to confront unguarded, often unpleasant, emotions. Grant was grateful for his LSD therapy — over the course of a decade, he’d drop acid more than 100 times. Among other benefits, he credited LSD with helping him control his drinking and come to terms with unresolved conflicts about his parents.

This would have to be placed in a time context. When it first came out, LSD was heralded by the Medical Profession as a possible cure or treatment for a whole host of illnesses, mostly mental. It was used extensively in depression treatment, and the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill Wilson, used it while under a doctor's care to treat his clinical depression. It wasn't until the '60's that the drug became a party animal.

Problem is: the loss of the little grey cells...

If not for that, it would all be like... ...Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds...

It's like the time I tried to quit smoking so I took up crack. Yeah that was great.

/Joking, I never smoked tobacco or crack.

I did lots of it in my youth (15 to 20 or so). Very interesting stuff. And if you have ever listened to Dark Side Of The Moon or watched 2001: A Space Odessy while baked on Vitamin A, as we called it, then you can attest to it being a perceptual life altering experience.

Not for everyone, but very interesting stuff. Haven't done any in twenty years so I cannot say what today's stuff is like. Probably just speed or some crap like that.

This may shock some of you but I have Mr Grant beat easy. When I was like 20 this stuff cost a quarter and wasnt even illegal at first. People whipped it up in their bathtubs. I even did a hit one night on a 20 mile forced march in the Marines. Then when we got to the demonstration fields we were throw phosphorus grenades and firing Bazookas it was cool with all the trails. I remember going to Disneyland also and going on Pirates of the Caribbean and thinking it real. Its sort of like toontown in Rodger rabbit. The movie fear and loathing in Las Vegas captures it pretty well visually but of course you dont get the body rushes watching the movie. Now I dont advise anyone to ever try it and I never will again .Stopped about 25 years ago. But bang for the dollar you sure cant touch it. Its funny when you are tripping everything in the world suddenly makes sense but when you come back down the next day or so(I had 1 hit of acid that lasted for 3 days) you cannot remember why.

Ah Gawain, you see, we do have similarities. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

It was always $5 a hit in my time. Purple Microdot, Orange Windowpane, White Ohm from California, blotters of all different colours. it was a veritable feast. And yes, it was the best bang for the buck. $5 got you a day of fun. Quite something.

We used to do a hit or two and spend the day walking around the cemetery on Mount Royal. Gorgeous place. Then go home and play my synthesizers with the headphones on until the wee hours of the morning. And listening to King Crimson was a treat when coming down and lying in bed as peaceful as peaceful could be.

I remember coming home at three in the morning and standing in the kitchen tripping out on a bowl of Alphabits, seeing all the words I could spell. Must have taken an hour to finish the bowl. What a riot. Oh to be young and mentally promiscuous again... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
