I stole this poll from somewhere else, but I'm interested to see how the Org members will respond. Definitely Bourne Supremacy for me, but the new Harry Potter is a close second...

Isn't Alexander supposed to come out at the end of the year?

That would be my first choice. Harry Potter is probably scheduled for next week...

Alexander the Great. May end up being disappointing, but still looking forward to it more than any other film. Much more intriguing than most on that list.

BTW, word of warning for I, Robot. This an Hollyweird complete adulteration of Asimov's work. Any similarity with the Robot novels is purely coincidental... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-sick.gif

This one is just a dumb action movie with big explosions and a lot of shooting. Nothing else. Asimov's work being trown in to the sewer... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-toilet.gif

But, then again, what to expect from a Will Smith movie? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-cry.gif

Hollyweird is doing with Asimov's novel the bullsh** work it has been performing with Philip K. Dick's novels. Remember Total Recall? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-sick.gif

The only notable exception to this is Blade Runner by Ridley Scott.

I watched them film one of the big robot mob scenes from I Robot in downtown Vancouver recently. It was very weird looking.

I was just giving a general overview. Lost in Translation is a bad example because it's a film that causes two kind of reactions on different people: accentuated approval or accentuated dislike. Some people find it boring, others find it quite familiar and identify with it.

In fact, for quite different reasons, Irreversible is even more a love/hate film. Mainly because of the story itself.

Besides, I wasn't recommending Manoel de Oliveira's movies, was I? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wink.gif

Yes, the Blade Runner, incidentally my all-time favorite movie, was remarkable, but it was not a Hollywood movie in that sense of words. It was done in 1982. Blockbuster philosophy began developing with Emmerich and Independence Day. I don't know (m)any other good examples of books becoming good movies… Odyssey 2001 is one that comes to my mind…

Today you settle with what you can get, and blockbusters happen to sell themselves.

I'm looking forward to see Punisher as well; I hope it would reach the quality of the comic. Also, I will go to see Alien vs Predator, in hope it will have some good action scenes. Not to forget the magnificent Lance Henriksen acting

After all, I also agree that the books are the best way to feed your head.

Alexander is supposed to be the most accurate historical movie ever or something (so opposite of Troy then lol). I listened to an interview with the historian who helped make it on the radio (he took part in some of the cavalry charges too), he was saying how accurate it was. He was saying how his cavalry unit looks really slow because they didn't use stirups whilst some extras did and zoomed off.

It was sponsored and produced by an Hollywood studio. It was directed by British Ridley Scott. The same of Alien I.

That attitude is too passive. You can avoid blockbuster and see more worthy films.

I think 2001 Space Odessey was written at the same time the film was made. You can tell because Clarke ran out of ideas for the end, so the book has a great ending but it wasn't finished in time for the film (which has a pretty lousy ending).
