Here's a story I posted in off-topic already. Thought it would be better to post it here though so can any mod delete the old one?

LOTR: The 3rd Rise

My name is Josh Elessar and I’m twenty-two years old. This is my story. This is my life. I walked out of my apartment as I read my newspaper dated April seventeenth, two-thousand and five.
“Several people went missing in the park woods? That’s uncommon with all the signs and security they put in there.” I thought.
I continued reading the article as I sat down on a bench. I read that over the course of three months nearly eighty people had gone missing. The park had increased security and number of tour guides but nothing seemed to have been helping. I had planned on going to the park in two weeks but decided that with this startling new information my plans would change. I continued on my way to tour the city for I had only been in New Jarka town for five days. I moved there for what seemed no reason at all. It was as if some instinct brought me there.
“Oops, I’m very sorry” I said as I bumped into another pedestrian. My mind had been wandering. I looked at the man and saw his face. He was elderly. I couldn’t tell how old but he looked in his seventies or so. He carried a tall, white staff with him and he was clothed in white robes that were faded very lightly gray. His face was wrinkled and he had long white hair with a beard to match.
“No problem,” he replied and continued the muttering he was doing before our accidental collision.
I first thought that his new muttering was directed on me but I soon realized that he was going on about something else. I heard a few phrases such as ‘he is returning’ and ‘we destroyed it’ but wasn’t able to discern any more than that. I dismissed it as the ramblings of a crazy old man. I did not know how wrong I would be. I continued touring the large city and decided to go to Kelor Mountain. It was supposedly the site of an incredible castle. There were large slabs of what appeared to be shaped stone. The edges were rounded and many cracks and cuts in the stone were there but it appeared to have been cut out of a mountain. At the very top there was but a single tree. It was obviously very old but it seemed to still have a large amount of white color in it. It was completely leafless and all you could see was a white, nearly gray, tree. Most of the rock near it had been chipped off by lightning or avalanches or some such weathering effect but all the stone within two feet of it remained. I began to read a tourist pamphlet about the ancient castle.
It read, “Kelor Mountain is thought to be the remains of a great castle, perhaps the capitol city of some great empire. Some of it may even date back tens of thousands of years. In ancient writings there does not seem to be any mention of this castle, no trace of its existence. On the top stands only one tree that is withered but it has somehow been able to stand the test of time and is still alive. Kelor Mountain’s castle origins are truly a great mystery,”
When I saw the tree it was as if something sparked inside me. It was as if it was calling to me. I dismissed the feeling as something I ate and decided I would never eat a ‘Kelor Castle Burrito’ again. I lingered there for a while, staring at the castle remains and the intriguing tree before I moved on. I had always liked medieval weaponry however, so I stopped by a nearby gift shop that was named ‘Kelor Castle Armory’. I walked in and looked around. The store definitely had a medieval theme. There were no electric lights and the entire building was lit by candles or oil lamps. I looked around the store and saw two parts. One was for younger shoppers and had plastic swords, shields, and armor. The other side was clearly for older shoppers as it had actual sharp swords, medieval helmets, shields, and even a few chain mail vests. I looked around at all the different designs of swords. There were some with jewels formed into the blade, some had jewels in the hilt, and I saw one with the entire blade made of silver. They all had varying prices however I noted that they were all quite expensive. None, however, were as expensive as one. It was a beautiful sword that was hanging on one of the walls in a glass case. It looked magnificent but it was priced at over eleven-thousand dollars. It was a very good sword but none of the others even came close to that price.
I went up to the storekeeper, “What about that sword on the wall? What makes it different from the others?”
“The others are replicas. They may look good but they were made not long ago. That sword is well over a thousand years old. I found it one day near the ruins. It was buried but I dig inside my property often. I own a fair-sized portion of this place. I don’t own any land actually where the castle is but very close to it. I’ve found several artifacts but never an actual sword before that one. The museums wanted to buy it but I want a person who can really appreciate it, a collector. Are you looking to buy it?” he replied.
“Perhaps, Eleven-thousand is a lot to spend on a sword. I am only starting my collection and this would be my first sword,” I responded
“You look like you are a responsible man and there is no other sword like this one. A perfect start it would be,”
I told him I’d think about it and walked closer to the glass case. The sword had many symbols on it. There appeared to be seven stars with a crescent moon and a sun as the main symbols. Many other runes were scattered across its shiny surface and I became entranced. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of it. It was like the tree, it was as if it was calling out to me. I ended up buying the sword after a small amount of thinking about it. The shopkeeper gave me several instructions for taking care of it and the purchase included a sheath and displaying plaque.
As soon as I walked out of the shop it was as if reality came rushing back to me. I realized I had bought an eleven thousand dollar sword I started to go back to the shop and plead temporary insanity but something held me back and I decided to go back to my apartment. Once I got there I immediately put the sword away for the time being and switched on the TV. I turned it to a news channel and what I saw was horrifying.

CHAPTER 2 – THE ATTACK BEGAN

I just stood there for several minutes trying to grasp what I had seen. Hideous creatures were running out of the woods with large swords and slaughtering everyone they saw.
I turned up the sound, “The attack began less than five minutes ago and already most of the park’s visitors are dead. Town officials have called SWAT and the entire police department is rushing onto the scene but hundreds of these creatures have come out of the woods. They appear to be armed with medieval weapons.” The anchorwoman’s face suddenly turned to a look of pain. She fell down revealing an arrow piercing her back.
I backed away from the TV hoping that it wasn’t true and that it was some cruel joke. I continued watching as several police cards arrived on the scene. They immediately hid behind their squad cars and began shooting at the creatures. Bullets seemed to bounce off their heavy bodies harmlessly. The camera zoomed in and I got my first good look at the creatures. They were humanoid and had sort of brown-gray colored skin it seemed but I couldn’t tell for sure if it was just dirt or their actual skin. They wore no shirt and ripped dirt-covered pants along with sword sheaths. They used curved blades and spiked clubs. Many of the people they attacked were not dead, just in incredible pain. Not long after the police arrived the creatures charged at them. The police took out their clubs and attacked but the large, muscular creatures easily overpowered them. Then, I saw yet another thing I didn’t expect. All of a sudden an elderly man with a staff and sword charged at the creatures. In less than a minute he had killed nearly twenty of them but even more were running towards him. He happened to turn to the camera and that’s when I realized he wasn’t just some old man. He was the man I bumped into earlier that day
“He’s a good fighter for someone his age but he’s going to get himself killed I have to help him” I said to myself.
Luckily, I lived just a little more than 2 minutes away from the park by car. Grabbing an old mobile TV with a four inch screen and my newly bought sword I bolted out the door. I quickly hopped into my classic Cadillac and sped away. I must have been speeding quite a bit because I arrived fifty seconds after I left.
“Get in” I yelled to the elderly man and I screeched to a halt.
The man was being overwhelmed and couldn’t leave. Suddenly his staff lighted up and became tremendously bright, making the creatures hold their heads and back away from him. He took this opportunity to flee and jumped into the seat right next to me. I immediately hit the gas and sped away.

Anyway feast your eyes on this next section Ok it isn't the best section but it is a section nonetheless.

“Who are you? What’s with the sword and the really powerful flashlight stick thing?” I asked.
“My name is Gandalf. You need not know the rest for now. We must tell the people to evacuate and then we must go. Even I cannot face this evil alone.” Gandalf replied.
“Of course you can’t. You’ve got to be what, seventy?”
“My age does not matter. I am unprepared to fight the evil that is revealing itself. I have become weak with age.”
“Wait Do you know what’s going on?” I asked, becoming more impatient by the minute.
“I have knowledge of what is happening. My ability to recognize evil has diminished however. I was not able to sense something amiss until two days ago,”
He gave me directions and we ended up at the New Jarka emergency broadcast building. We ran into the building with surprising speed,
“You need to sound the emergency sirens We must evacuate the city” I commanded.
“What do you mean? There’s no reason to,” he replied.
I quickly took command of his television set and changed the channel to our main news station. They were showing video of the creatures attacking the park. The creatures were spreading out into the city fast.
“Hey Bob Sound the evacuation sirens Get every evacuation thing we have up and on automatic broadcast then let’s get out of here” the worker shouted.
We left the men and got back in the Cadillac, rapidly speeding away from the town. The nearest city to New Jarka was around two hours away. When we reached it we warned the people there of the creatures. They laughed at first but when we showed them the video of the creatures destroying the park they changed their minds. Apparently the old man wanted to go to a certain place that was nearly seven hours from our then current location. After four hours I finally couldn’t take the silence and decided to try to have a conversation with him.
“I need to know more about this. Where are we going? What were those things?” I inquired.
“We are going to an old friend’s house. Those creatures are the foulest, most evil beings you will ever see. They are orcs, some of them are uruk-hai,” answered Gandalf.
“Orcs? Orcs aren’t real They’re fiction”
“There are many species that live in this world but do not reveal themselves and orcs are one of them. I will say no more until we reach my friend’s home.”
I continued driving, unsatisfied.
Eventually we reached a small house in what seemed to be the middle of nowhere. Gandalf got out of the car and knocked on the door.
A young man answered the door. He had a short, blonde hairstyle, “Hello Gandalf. Who is this with you?” he looked worried.
“He rescued me from a horde of orcs. I never asked his name. What is it?” inquired Gandalf.
“My friends call me Josh. My given name is Aragorn,” I replied.
Their eyes seemed to grow with surprise. I had never thought about my name before except as being strange. I figured it was some kind of weird tradition with my family because all the first born men in our family are named Aragorn.
“Your name is Aragorn? Are you aware of your heritage?” asked Gandalf.
“Not really. I’ve never really been interested in my past. Why?”
“This is not the place. Come in and we will talk later,” Gandalf replied.

BTW, I want this story to be really good so if anyone finds a part boring or unneeded or something let me know.

my stroy clash of nations i plan to have done in a week but i have a thing where i have 3 choices the reders pick what happens next but no one replies so i have been adding little bonus parts of the story like i have a battle from the bad people point of view things like that but i just made it today and alot of people dont come here so i will have to wait ohwell more time to think of the plot http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I guess I could make it a magic forest but I never thought of that.

The problem with it being fangorn or something is that fangorn was never near Minas Tirith. I'll have to go find a middle earth map and see where I can put new landmarks.

I'm trying to make this as true to the books as I can. I can't have mordor popping up 2 miles away from Minas Tirith.

Here's the next part:

Gandalf told me to wait in the living room and the two men went into the kitchen to talk. I had to know more about what was going on so I quietly snuck next to the door and opened it slightly.
“He is Aragorn son of Isildur I should have sensed it” Gandalf declared.
“You could not have sensed it. Now what has been happening on the front?” replied Legolas.
“Orcs have been unleashed into Gondor. Somehow they have been able to grow in number unseen. They could not have done it without some kind of aid.”
“You suspect a wizard?’
“Possibly. The orcs had some kind of magical protection. Bullets did not harm them.”
“Guns are the human’s main defense They have lost their great melee skills of old. If a true orc uprising starts the humans will not be able to defeat it.”
“They must be crazy. They are talking as if they aren’t human. I better get out of here,” I whispered to myself.
I closed the door a bit too hastily and they heard it creaking. I ran for my car as fast as I could but Gandalf and Legolas stopped me.
“What is wrong?” shouted Gandalf.
“You guys are crazy Tell me what’s going on now”
They looked at each other for a while. It almost seemed as if they were communicating without saying anything.
Finally Gandalf turned to me and said, “Very well. I suppose it is time for you to know,”
He brought me inside and began to explain everything to me, “A great evil has been amassing and you may be the only one who can stop it,”
“Me?”
“Yes. Thousands of years ago a dark lord named Sauron came to power. He used a ring as an instrument of incredible power and evil in an attempt to conquer the world. He was struck down by an alliance of elves and men in a defiant battle. However, the ring was never destroyed and his forces built up again. That was his second rise to power. We destroyed the ring with a victory. Now, I fear he is readying his third rise. Somehow he has survived the ring’s destruction and I fear he may soon have great enough strength to take physical form.”
“You’re kidding me right? Elves? Magic? Dark lord? This is some kinda sick joke right?” I then took my first good look at Legolas and saw that his ears were pointed, “Legolas your ears They’re-”
“Pointed. I am an elf,” interrupted Legolas.
I finally realized that this was no joke.
“You are Aragorn, heir of Isildur. Isildure is the man that first destroyed the dark lord Sauron. The original Aragorn was pivotal to saving earth. You are heir to the throne of Gondor” Gandalf continued.
“What is Gondor anyway?” I asked.
“Gondor was once a mighty nation. New Jarka is part of that nation. New Jarka stands on the remains of Minas Tirith, the capitol of Gondor.”

It's certainly a very original theme. Well done, nightcrawlerblue

But I think that the plot needs working on. It all seems a bit too predictable: Josh finds Gandalf, the sword, the tree and the Orcs in so short a sequence. It cannot be a coincidence, yet you offer no explanation for it.
You should also make the story elements (like the sword, Gandalf, etc.) less 'visible'. For example by placing them further from each other in the story. Or by adding non-critical details that function as 'decoys' away from the real story elements.

I hope you don't feel put out by my criticism. It is meant just to make your story better, and that is what we both want, isn't it?
I shall look forward to reading you next part.

Yes, you've got it right. Too many important things happen in too short a time span. You should space the story elements out, and fill the space in between up with not-so-important events.
And I think you should explain the appearance of story-elements (Gandalf, the sword, etc.) better than just I bumped into him / I just felt an irresistable urge to buy it.

Oh no I forgot that it was Wednesday I totally forgot about the story. I've already got a small section done but I was hoping for a large section. I'll have it up by Thursday evening.

Here it is

“You’re saying I am a king to some old, dead nation?”
“Yes. However, Gondor isn’t dead. It has been lost in history but you can revive it. Call the armies of the world and lead them to destroy Sauron. He has been beaten before and he will be beaten again.”
“You guys kinda sound crazy but then again considering what I just saw I’m considering believing you,”
We talked more and I learned of what they called ‘The old Nations’. After two days of them constantly trying to convince me I finally caved in and told them I would help them. I was still unsure of what was right however.
“We cannot stay here. We must defend mankind from this great evil. We leave tomorrow. Be ready.” Gandalf declared.
I went to the guest room and thought heavily about what I should do. Too much information had been poured into my head, I couldn’t think straight. Soon it was time to leave and I had been so busy trying to sort everything I had just learned that I barely got any sleep. We loaded up my car with food and other supplies and headed out with Legolas driving.
“Modern weapons seem to be useless. There is some magic that protects the orcs. We must find you a sword, Aragorn.” Gandalf stated.
“I already have one,” I reached over to my carefully wrapped sword and unsheathed it, “I just got it at a gift shop. It better be good considering the price I paid for it”
Gandalf looked at the sword and said, “Do you know what this sword is? This is Anduril, the Flame of the West This is the sword that originally defeated Sauron. It is the one thing he fears”
“What?”
“Anduril has been reunited with an heir of Isildur. This marks the coming of Gondor Perhaps there is still hope for man.”
I wasn’t exactly sure what he was talking about but for some reason kept quiet. After two hours we reached another city. There was a large mob of people yelling about the end of the world and waving signs about horrible security. Large TV screens were showing videos of the orc mayhem that happened at the New Jarka Park.
I Stepped up to one and asked, “What’s going on here?”
“Have you seen these videos? These creatures will destroy us all” answered a man near me.
Soon Gandalf had taken a place in front of the crowd, “Quiet This is not necessarily the end of the world but it could be. We must drive back the orcs” cheering began, “A great evil arises that must be stopped I call to you Stop this evil” cheering continued.
I thought that he was crazy, enlisting an army of scared protestors. Apparently it wasn’t taking much to convince them though. I was sure he’d have them marching around killing these so called orcs in no time.
Gandalf approached me, “This is Jacob, he’s the leader of this group,”
“Hey, whassup man? Call me Big J” Jacob said as he shook my hand. He was certainly big. I thought about how our army was going to be led by an obese black man who liked to be called ‘Big J’.
“You’re not serious are you Gandalf?”
“He may not look like the greatest army leader but I sense much good in him.”
“If you say so. I’m guessing it’s too late for me to back out on this?”
“We need you, Aragorn. Without you the earth will be filled with darkness and all hope of anything good will be lost forever.”
I was still not convinced that this Gandalf fellow didn’t just escape from an insane asylum but once again decided to go along with him.
“Yeah well with ‘Big J’ watching my back I have nothing to fear anyway,” I said, sarcastically.

Not sure if it's any good but I had a case of writer's block. I thought adding Big J would add some humor to the story too. LOTR is serious but everything can use some humor.

I'm not sure when the next segment will come (I'll have a deadline soon) but it shouldn't be too long. One of my sister's friends is coming over for 4 days and taking my room. So for 4 days I won't have much to do but play GBA, watch TV, and write.

Also, I've started a new story, When Blood Falls. It's posted here in the mead hall.

Me and Legolas got a hotel room while Gandalf and ‘Big J’ rounded up volunteers. I still couldn’t believe we were working with someone who preferred to be called Big J. I was sent to get some food for the night so I headed to a local fast food place. As I passed an alleyway I heard a voice, “Aragorn, there will be a traitor. One of them will betray you before the end.” The voice was very deep and very quiet. It was unlike anything I’d ever heard. When I looked in the alleyway there was nothing other than a heap of garbage. I continued on my way but couldn’t shake the mysterious voice’s words. I could certainly believe them because I had just meant everyone that I was staying with. I got back and we ate, both Gandalf and Legolas hardly saying a word. The hotel had only one room, a large room with 3 beds. When the clock struck nine we all went to bed. I kept my eyes open and barely slept, not ready to trust either of the men sleeping in beds near mine. We awoke and all got dressed, readying ourselves for the big day ahead of us.
“Gandalf those men seemed awfully gullible. If you had done that very short sappy little speech it wouldn’t have affected me at all. How did you manage to get all these guys to follow you?”
“Grave times call for desperate measures. I may have used a small susceptibility spell on the crowd before my speech just to move things along faster.” Gandalf said, sounding as innocent as he could.
I made a small chuckle and continued on with getting ready to leave. We left at noon and it was only eight o’ clock so I decided to check out the town. It was fairly normal, with extra bustle because many people were getting ready to leave. I went into one of the few shops that were remaining open and it happened to be a hunting store. I looked around at all the various shotguns and rifles and a large hunting knife with an eight inch blade caught my eye. I picked it up along with a holster and also found a professional bow and some supposedly high quality arrows. Though my archery skills were limited to a few classes as a young boy I bought the bow along with some arrows and the hunting knife. I prayed that the arrows would be more effective against orc skin than bullets. The hunting shop had an archery range in the back that people could use for ten dollars an hour. I quickly took the remainder of my cash and payed him for the remaining three hours I had before we left. Hoping I would be a natural I quickly pulled back and fired an arrow at the target. It missed the target by nearly 3 feet and hit a nearby tree. Fortunately the tree was already nearly destroyed so I knew I wasn’t the first to make such a blunder. After three hours of practicing I was beginning to shape up and hit within five inches of the bull’s-eye most of the time. Not perfect but extraordinary for only three hours of practice. Time had come to leave for the next town so I leapt into the Cadillac and we rode off with around eighty vehicles behind us.
“We managed to get a large crowd. How many are in there?” I asked
“Around three-hundred but only half of those are strong men capable of putting up a good fight. Hopefully we’ll get more in the next town. The armies of darkness number in the many thousands and our people are not trained with swords and other medieval weapons. As soon as we reach the next town I want Legolas to lead a training class. Train as many of them as you can with a blade or a spear of some sort. Aragorn I want you to gather as many weapons as you can. Anything with a large blade or something that can be used as a spear, modern guns are useless now. It’s time we go to war”

Great work I just saw this and read it. As for the wood how about the Firien Wood (just inside the Gondor-Rohan border).

As for the comments about this being fast moving, in some ways that is good but i feel it could be taken a little slower. Another problem with the plot - Legolas left for Valinor (along with Gimli, the only Dwarf ever to arrive their).

I never read the third book just the first two but who's to say one of Legolas's descendants didn't move? Remember, we're talking about like Legolas the 25th

Also, I decided to make it move kinda fast because I'm not sure how long I want the book to be and I want to hurry up and get into the core of the book (the war against darkness. Right now they only have an army of around 150 people).

There will be less updates for 3rd rise now because I'm focusing on When Blood Falls trying to get it into the core of the story fast. I've already got a new good-sized section done but the next one should be a huge update introducing the main story (of when Blood Falls).

My plan when I created it was that it would help make the form exactly how it was in MS Word (some of it gets messed up in the forums) however that didn't work as my version of MS Word and version of Frontpage aren't compatible so it messes the form up. I would have just quit then but I had already invested quite a bit of time into it.

I just found that it makes it easier for me plus, now I always have a deadline for my story update.

BTW, my 3rd Rise update is already complete but I haven't even started on the When Blood Falls one. I am a master of procastination. :D

You have an audience on this forum, a small one, but still an audience; you can get direct feedback and the problem of iconboard 'messing up' speech-marks and such is certainly not very serious.

And now you retreat to your own site which has no audience as far as I can see, no feedback possibility and the link to it will get burried in the Mead Hall in time.
