Alot of people will whine that they dont have kilts so you might want to put the fact that they didnt wear them in the unit description. The scots were pretty good with spears and pikes(look at bannockburn for example.) and also the famous claymore was used by them which believe it or not is said to be almost perfectly balanced and handles beautifully, its even been said that the only think that betters it in that sense is a Katana...and barely...so despite its large size it was not hard to wield effectively (attack or charge bonus?) Possibly make units afraid of it as it was quite a bit of a psychological weapon as well, I mean with some nearly six feet long it is intimidating. Sorry Im getting a bit long winded here, so I must go, I hope I have helped some. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/medievalcheers.gif

14th century
1. Knights
2. Dismounted Knights
3. Light Cavalry
4. Mounted Men-at-Arms
5. Men-at-Arms
6. Artillery Crew
7. Spearmen
8. Archers
9. Voulgiers
10. Longbows
11. Billmen
12. Flemish Militia

So with going back to a 15th century campaign, in this case 1403 - 1485 (or 1500) we should be able to free up the above BIFS.

DJ could you have a look at creating me another Longbow unit, similar to the one below. I have had a good luck around the WoTR mod, and for the opening - Battle of Shrewsbury, I can use shire billmen, and shire longbows, along with Men-at-arms and knights. But Im a little short on longbows, it would be nice to have two differnt BIF, So I can call the new one cheshire Longbows, or visa-versa.

Also I have scanned in annother Graham Turner image, as below..

There are 2 Longbows BIFs already included in the WotR beta. But I guess I have foresight:

Another excellent BIF for me to use. This one will be the CHESHIRE Longbow unit...

Thanks DJ.

How far away is that BIF from a moving usable BIF, as once I have that I can start looking at creating the Battle of Shrewsbury for our first mod release (ONLINE PLAY) if you like ?

If the Longbow is the only unit you need, then I will that unit will get priority, it will take 2/3 days or so.

DJ, only from a purely esthetic point of view, those guys look like they have rapper-american football t-shirts.

My suggestion is to make them longer (knee?) and add a sort of belt (even with a scabbard).

Otherwise they are great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/medievalcheers.gif

Sorry for disrupting you thread BTW.

Wow DJ, you never cease to amaze. I really admire what you and Shadeswolf are doing. Without a doubt these are the best models that I've seen in any mod for MTW. All I can say is keep up the good/excellent/magnificent work

Kneelength tabards were used during the pre-15th century. In the 15th century the tabards/jupons got shorter. You should put faith me that I try to make the models as historical as possible. Although I must say that I am restricted to the Osprey book illustrations and manuscript illustrations from the 15th century. I do not make this kind of stuff up.

Maybe the tunics should be just a shade darker...looks a little to bright to have been done with medieval dyes but maybe I'm wrong, I dunno, Dont know much about textiles in the middle ages...what I always wonder is how they go t paint to stick to their armour(i.e. Parade Armour)...I imagine they mixed pitch with the paint so it would stick and be waterproof as well? Anyways, they look great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

I didnt mean they are unaccurate DJ, I just wanted to say that they look more like football jerseys, and thus my suggestion. Maybe NP is right and they should be a little darker... I didnt research the period, so I dont pretend being right. It was more of an artistic opinion. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

OK guys a quick bit of research from my books on the period. Pre-1400 - ie Edward III reign appears to have 'shirts' hanging between knees and bottom.

All the books I have showing after 1400 Henry IV+ , show the 'shirts' hanging around the bottom, so they appear to have gone up about 6 inchs.

nice models DJ.

One question - would men in battle armour have had plumes on their helmets? I was under the impression this was just a tournament thing.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

Duke John
06-22-2004, 19:53
I've seen plumes on several Osprey plates. I would much rather make a couple of units in complete white armour, but that would make it pretty difficult to recognize your own men. To compromise I will add the plumes on some models so that the faction colours are still visible. On other models I use diagonal stripes from cloth (I've seen this in other sources).

Quote[/b] ]I was under the impression this was just a tournament thing.

You may still be right of course http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-nice.gif

I think I will make one unit in white armour without any livery and the men-at-arms in Italian armour will probably be the one.

(White armour is armour without any clothing, livery. You only see plate.)

Plumes were used by many knights in battle, particulary by the extravagent french knights and guests in the french armies.
