This thread is designed to be used for the stories of all those cool things that have happened to you in games. I'll start the ball rolling;

I just had one of those magic bullet moments in IL2:FB. I was in a HtoH with a Spitfire IV, flying a 109E. I passed him, thought none of my shots had hit...then I looked round and saw the debris drifting to the floor. On reviewing the track, it looks like one lucky bullet set his engine on fire. Another interesting detail which I was able to see on the track was that the pilot managed to bail out...just in time to be caught in the blast from the exploding Spit.

Make you feel good to be alive, don't it? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

This is an old old game.

I was flying a Me-163, the rocket propelled fighter in Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. The thing is, that crazy plane only has fuel for like 5-10 mins of dogfight, before it has to glide back to base.

Anyway, I took off, found the lumbering B-17s, attempted to attack them, their escort of Mustangs engaged me instead. I flew circles for a while to try and get on the tail of the bogey. It took me 2 mins before I got a quick shot off, must have nastied him a bit.

I looked at my fuel gauge and saw that it was just about time to http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif goodbye and fly home. So I powered back to base and landed.

Just as I was about to press the key-combi for End Game, the screen announced that I had destroyed the enemy Mustang. Strange one it seemed till I reviewed the replay. Appears that as I approached my base to land, one of the Mustangs followed me and as he attempted to attack me, he flew overhead of my fighter and actually activated some rockets which are triggered by light sensitivity.

Day of Defeat. Now mind you, I play an aggressive game, and I like to attack. I play the Germans, and use the Sturmtruppen class. (it has the MP 44)

I always try to get teamwork going, too.

One day, I log onto an Avalanche server, and the Germans are down to their last flag. I say to my friends, Come on boys, let's get out of our stinkin' (censored version) base

I run out by our first flag, out of the corner of my eye I see an American camping out the main spawn exit. (There are two exits) I quickly turn and light him up. After typing in a prompt attack on that player's questionable practices, I ran out by our first flag. I see a grenade fly in through the archway to the center. I kneel and pop three Americans rounding the corner. I'm not sure they ever saw me. By this time, I had a few team mates behind me.

Going into the center, I know there is a sniper across the market (there always is). So, I run out into the center, spraying fire on full auto in the general direction of the window I know he is in, hoping the muzzle flash will obstruct his view and give me time to sprint to the next cover. It works. One of my comrades behind me pops him with a Kar 98, and I am in the little alcove on the right, which is where I sprinted to.

One of the guys behind me grabs our second flag.

Apparently, the Americans had been having a tea party or something, because now they suddenly came en masse. Remember, there are only like four of us.

Americans come running at the center like it's going out of style, I take some damage, but manage to kill some six guys. Once the wave is over, me and a mate grab the middle flag. I backtrack a bit and enter the housing complex.

There is an American inside. I catch him by surprise, and he goes down. By now, I am thinking, Man, I'm on a roll.

I proceed to clear out a room, which had, guess what, an American sniper. I clear the rest of the rooms without finding another enemy. I run out the door of the complex (which is right in front of their first flag) and turn the corner back to the center. I'm still talking to my comrades. I duck behind a big stone slab.

Pulling the spray and sprint trick again, I avoid a hail of MG fire, and dive into their second flag. I capture it without incident. My team mates are beginning to turn the corner and attack the enemy at their first flag. I pop out from behind the sandbags, and lay down some fire- it's all clear.

I rush down, throwing my grenade as far as I can, and kneel behind another alcove. An Ally runs by and I light him up from behind- It's now or never I thought. Team mates were behind me. I run out of the alcove and spray and pray while my mates run in behind me. We capture the flag, and it's all over.

Now mind you, this all happened in a maximum of three minutes.

And I didn't die once. Think I would have gotten a Knight's Cross? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-toff.gif

This one is from Joint Operations.

There are two sides in this game, the Rebels which are equipped with Soviet vehicles and weapons, and there is the Joint Operations side which is basically NATO as it comprises of Americans, British, French, Australians, Russians(not soviet, this is current time) and last but not least, the Germans.

In this particular encounter, I was playing on the Joint Operations side as a German KSK Kommando. The map was a very large one with multiple islands, the main form of transportation was through naval landings and choppers.

There were about 150 people on the server at the time (not kidding) and things were progressing rather well for my side as we managed to take the first Rebel island without much difficulty. However, the second island was a different story as no matter what we tried we could never get a large enough force to capture and hold the bunker (the most important part of this particular island, a concrete bunker with a very large view of the landing area).

The island was so well defended that the Rebels had about 30 people holding it at any given time, this ment that and attempted landing was hit with massed machinegun and rocket fire. The Rebels then proceeded to attack one of our islands with their remaining 40 or so people which hampered our attempts at attacking as this forced us to split our forces between defending and assaulting, which basically ment that we were stuck in a stalemate.

Now that the situation has been described, Ill get to what I did to win us the game... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Seeing that nothing was being gained, I took command and organized our assault force. I split about 50 people into two groups, the diversionary amphibious landing group(think saving private ryan with rubber dingies)

and the second group was loaded on to several choppers and were put on stand by. I then hitched a ride on a small scout chopper and set off alone to the Rebel island. (Remember I was a German KSK Kommando... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif )

The plan was to have the amphibious force make a landing and draw the attention away from my insertion in order to allow me to infiltrate and clear the bunker as well as the surrounding machine gun nests. This never happened as the chopper was spotted on approach and a hail of stinger missiles flew up to annialate it.

The chopper was destroyed, but I managed to hop off into the ocean and avoided getting killed. I then swam the rest of the way to the island and snuck into the bunker from behind. Using my silenced MP5, I managed to clear the entire bunker using only one flashbang. Once I had captured the bunker I signaled for the amphibious landing to commence.

As predicted, the marines were getting slaughtered, so I rushed to the top of the Bunker and began picking off the machine gunners one at a time. By the time that the surviving marines began to reach the costal fortifications, about 15 Rebels riding Humvees burst onto the beach head and began to cut down the marines.

At this point I wipped out my trusty AT4 anti-tank rocket launcher and took aim, I only had two shots and I had to take out four hummers. I landed the first shot between two hummers which were close togther, neither of them were destroyed but all of the infantry around them were blown right into the air. I fired my second round directly at hummer that was firing at a pinned-down squad of Marines. That hummer was destroyed but the last one saw the rocket trail and found my position on top of the bunker and began firing at me. I was forced to duck down and re-enter the bunker itself. After I reached a firing slit, I peeked out side and saw the very squad of marines that I saved charging towards the final humvee, four of the seven marines were cut down by the 50 cal. machine gun, but the remaining three managed to kill all of the occupants. After doing so they proceeded to mount the humvee and began killing the survivors of the mechinized force.

I then signaled the Choppers to move in and land around the bunker. As they began their approach, the Rebels hit the bunker with their own chopper force. The remains of the marines (about 11) and I remained inside the bunker while firing at the approaching choppers. They landed and unloaded about 20 men, who then proceeded to storm our position. Just as they were about to enter the bunker, our choppers then appeared and unloaded 25 Delta Force soldiers. We hit the Rebel soldiers from both sides and annialated them.

Following the Capture of the island, we used the Rebel choppers, which were intact and still on the ground, as well as our own to move on and take the next island before the rebels could organize any sort of defence.

After that we had begun our assault on the Rebel HQ but the game ended before we could complete it...

I love Joint Operations.... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

did you actually take the screens in game, or pick ones that fitted from online shots?

From online shots... do you think that I had the time to ask everyone to stop fighting while I took pictures? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
