This is my first story on here so bear with me.Also, for the sultans and generals names Im going to make them up because the Arab names are easy to forget as they are almost always long a$$ names. Also, the years may not be accurate but Ill try and get them close. Now onto the story... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-book2.gif
Part 1:Unguarded Capitals
In the 11th century the Egyptians were building up troops for what looked like a massive campaign. Against who was any1s guess. The Almohads were losing in their war against the Spaniards, the Turks were weak from fighting the Byzitines and the Byzitines were so focused on the Turks, Constantinople was virtually unguarded.Sultan Adil I finally made up his mind that he wanted to start an upper Mediterranian empire. Constantinople was the prime target and the Sultan set up his expedition force in early spring.
Part 2: The Byzitine war begins
In 1155 the Egyptian war machine was going strong.Egypt,Antioch and Tripoli were bringing in riches through trade and in turn, the trade produced some of the finest soldiers.
In summer of 1155 the Egyptians struck at the heart of the Byzitines...Constantinople.4,000 strong landed on its shores. Suprisingly the warriors were not fought while unloading from the ships but after they had already set up camp.
The Byzitines were led by Prince Alexius and his army. They were formidible soldiers enjoying some time off from the war. They had made their fame early in the war as they took Trebizoid and Rum from the Turkish grasp.
It was an easily won battle for the Egyptians and they surrounded Constantinoples fortress. The Prince was also captured during the battle. But he was not to be saved due to low Byzitine funds. War had made money hard to get for the Byzitines and it was not getting any better. The Prince was tortured for hours and finally met his end as he was hanged.
Word soon reached the emperor that his only son had been captured and killed. He was furious at this attack from the Egyptians and the loss of Constantinople. The loss of his son also struck him hard. To the Turks it was a miricle because the Byzitines suddenly stopped their expansion.
The commanders of the 5 armies met in Constantinople castle to discuss plans. Shariff Ad Shanishah, Amir of Arabia suggested Greece while Al Hadim,Amir of the Sinai suggested Nicea. Both men were formidible men, both on the battlefield and off. Both men knew how to run an economy and how to command thousands of men. They both made great points and in the end no1 could come to an agreement.
The Sultan arrived a year later with his Royal Army and decided to expand both ways. Greece and Nicea would fall the following year....
Constructive Feedback would be appreciated.
