I was just wondering what kind of music you guys listen to when your feeling uber-patriotic. My favorites are,

The Marine Corps Hymn
GarryOwen
Battle Hymn of The Republic
Star Spangled Banner
America The Beatiful

Red White and Blue Lynard Skynard
Courtesy of The Red White and Blue Toby Keith

The next two are both Soviet anthems but I like them anyway, not being able to understand the words probably helps http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif

Soviet National Anthem
Hymn to Red Ovtober (opening theme of Hunt For Red October)

Jerusalem... which is a patriotic hymn about Jesus walking around England's satanic mills and building Jerusalem here.
Guy who wrote it must have been on something at the time.
Nonetheless it is a great tune.

The Soviet national annthem http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif well not really, but that got to be the most powerfull anthem ever

But when it comes to patriotism, there isnt a country in this world that I would happily ne patriotic about.
Well I love sweden and will never abandon Scandinavia but I rather listen to Ebba Grön, Rage Against the Machine and Loop Troop if I wonna feel powerfull in political way.

blind patriotism and populistic nationalism make me sick...

The Sex Pistols version.

Thats about as Patriotic as listening to Morissey's Irish blood, English heart song.

As for true patriotic songs, well the great Escape tune tends to make us feel very British... Land of Hope and Glory is also good, along with Jerusalem http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

1812 Overture Everytime I hear this I get chills

Ode to Joy Chorus- Not a full song but I agree with Beirut, I keep hearing this song played with Panzers rolling by on History Channel.

MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME for my home state Nothing is more beautiful in all of sport than hearing 150000 people sing it before Kentucky Derby every year.

ROCKY TOP for my adopted home state 110000 drunken rednecks in Neyland Stadium will make your hair stand on end.

The last two are not nationalistic but are patriotic for a southerner.

'Abide with Me', at the many Wembley finals I've seen over the years in football and RL. With nearly 100,000 spectators singing it in a swirling stadium it was positively numbing in intensity.

'Flower of Scotland' and 'Land of My Fathers' are also magnificent spine-tingling anthems when sung at Murreyfield and Cardiff respectively.

Also, 'Men of Harlech', another Welsh Anthem, of Zulu (the film) fame, is another blood-stirrer. So evocative.

Couple of old Brittish war songs.

Over the hills and far away (For the Sharpe fans among us)

Here's forty shillings on the drum
For those who'll volunteer to come
To 'list and fight the foe today
Over the hills and far away.
O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away

When duty calls me I must go,
to stand and face another foe
But part of me will always stray
Over the hills and far away.
O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away

If I should fall to rise no more
As many comrades did before
Then ask the fifes and drums to play
Over the hills and far away.
O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away

Then fall in lads behind the drum
With Colours blazing like the sun
Along the road to come-what-may
Over the hills and far away.
O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away

Hearts of Oak (I really like this one)

Come cheer up, my lads,
'tis to glory we steer,
To add something more
To this wondertul year,
To honour we call you,
Not press you like slaves,
For who are so free
As the sons of the waves?

Chorus:|: Heart of oak are our ships,
Jolly tars are our men,
We always are ready,
Steady, boys, steady,
We'll fight and we'll conquer
Again and again. :|

We ne'er see our foes
But we wish them to stay,
They never see us
But they wish us away,
If they run, why we follow,
And run them ashore,
And if they won't fight us,
We cannot do more.

Chorus:

They swear they'll invade us,
These terrible foes,
They frighten our women,
Our children and beaus,
But should their flat bottoms
In darkness get o'er,
Still Britons they'll find
To receive them on shore.

Chorus:

Our worthy forefathers,
Let's give them a cheer,
To climates unknown,
Did courageously steer.
Through oceans to deserts,
For freedom they came,
And dying, bequeathed us
Their freedom and fame.

Chorus:

Very few people have ever heard The Star Spangled Banner sung the way it was written. It is not a funeral dirge; it is not meant to be performed. The song was written and originally sung in lower octaves and at a faster tempo. When done correctly, it can be quite inspiring. Last time I heard it done correctly, I believe it was by the West Point Choir. Remember, the music for this song was originally a drinking song, a little rowdy and upbeat. Somewhere along the line, this poor song was given the same treatment as most church hymns; set to the highest key and octave possible so that only women can sing them, and men become sterile trying.

Love Irish & Scot drinking and rebellion songs. Great stuff. Some great songs from the American Civil War--most you never would have heard. Who doesn't like Men of Harlich? And the old Soviet National Anthem? When played during the olympics, I used to get goose bumps. Had to try to hide them at the time; mortal enemies, you know. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif OK. So I'm a big wootz when it comes to stirring music. Music is the single thing I most miss from going deaf. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif But my memory is still good. But my memory is still good.

Have to mention 'Londonderry Air/Danny Boy'.

This one always threatens to descend into over-sentimentalised cliche, yet still manages to stir the soul nevertheless. I still vividly remember all the family singing it at my granda's wake and everyone sobbing their hearts out.

Oh danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling,
from Glen to Glen, and down the mountain side,
Summer's gone, and all the roses are dying
Tis you must go and tis I must bide

Great song.
I am also partial to Rule Britannia (I have old english blood), Royal Oak, the British Grenidiers, Amazing Grace, Irish-American Lullyby.

And of Course, Dixie Land, Bonny Blue, Battle Cry of Freedom (Southern Lyrics), Sweet Home Alabama, The Last Rebel (Skynrds great,)

Scotland the Brave (not really part scotish though, might be, family frome the Isles have been here since the 1700s so...) God bless America,

OT: Have any of you been to Historic Williamsburg, VA? There's a church on Duke of Glouchester Street with a monument out front, with an ancestor of mine on it, last name Bland, if any of you are ever there, check it out, it's cool.

We are a band of brothers,
Native to the soil
Fighting for the property
We gained by honest toil.
And when our rights were threatened,
The cry rose near and far;
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag
That bears a single star

chorus:
Hurrah Hurrah
For Southern rights, Hurrah
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag
That bears a single star

As long as the Union
Was faithful to her trust,
Like friends and brethren,
kind were we, and just;
But now, when Northern treachery
Attempts our rights to mar,
We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue flag
That bears a single star.

First gallant South Carolina
Nobly made the stand,
Then came Alabama
And took her by the hand;
Next, quickly, Mississippi,
Georgia, and Florida,
All raised on high the Bonnie Blue flag
That bears a single star.

Ye men of valor gather round
The banner of the right,
Texas and fair Louisiana
Join us in the fight;
Davis, our loved President,
And Stephens statesmen are;
Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag
That bears a single star.

And here's to brave Virginia,
The Old Dominion State.
With the young Confederacy
At length has linked her fate.
Impelled by her example,
Now other States prepare
To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue flag
That bears a single star.

Then here's to our Confederacy,
Strong we are and brave,
Like patriots of old we'll fight,
Our heritage to save.
And rather than submit to shame,
To die we would prefer
So cheer for the Bonnie Blue flag
That bears a single star.

Then cheer, boys, cheer,
Raise a joyous shout
For Arkansas and North Carolina
Now have both gone out;
And let another rousing cheer
For Tennessee be given
The single star of the Bonnie Blue Flag
Has grown to be eleven

Heard this sung before a 5-nations match at Murrayfield, surrounded by Scots... it is enough to put the willies up anyone (and that is not just because of the kilts).

Any chance of the lyrics here... they are really anti-English and very amusing.

I'm as English as they come but i do like flower of scotland as requested....

O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see
Your like again,
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
The Hills are bare now,
And Autumn leaves
lie thick and still,
O'er land that is lost now,
Which those so dearly held,
That stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.

Those days are past now,
And in the past
they must remain,
But we can still rise now,
And be the nation again,
That stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.

0 Flower of Scotland,
When will we see
your like again,
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
