So far no one has given me a reason why tjey made their pick . Well besides Mariahs obvious great looks she holds almost every record for a female singer.Mariah Carey has one of the best voices in pop music (or hip-hop, depending on your opinion), combined with one of the best attitudes. She isn't as innocent as she once marketed herself to be, but I have nothing against bad girls.

As the saying goes, all that glitters is gold, and Mariah's been producing gold since her first release. She was one of the world's top recording artists throughout the 1990s, setting records for most No. 1 singles by a female artist (she has 15), to most consecutive weeks at No. 1 with One Sweet Day, her collaboration with Boyz II Men (the single still holds that record) and the # 1 selling female artist of all time. Her chart accomplishments resulted in Billboard magazine naming her Artist of the Decade for the '90s. Top that

By the way my #2 would have to be Shania Twain, I never could stand country til she came along. Not a bad looker eitherhttp://www.maximonline.com/girls/shania_twain/gm_l3.jpg

Diana Krall is BOTH an extremely talented singer and pianist. She plays jazz and is also very very beautiful.

Actually I dont think any women can surpass Krall when you consider Talent/Beauty/Charisma ratio.

If we're just talking about singing, not about looks, then I say Janis Joplin. I just like her voice. Who was that woman who did feeling good, as well? She has a good voice.

Sarah Brightman at around 1987ish before she got so hugely over-weight

i've never heard of any female that can compete with that

tho she is not so hot (either in voice or looks) from the mid-90's on

of all the female vocalists i've ever heard, i'd have to go with a girl i dated in junior high school, then high school and then later on. amazing voice, but she never went pro. and she was quite a looker also.

second on my list would be Lee Ann Rimes. incredible voice and i love the look. fell in love with her the first time i heard her. i'm such a sucker for female vocalists :)

after that, celine dion, barbara steisand, mariah carey, shania twain, the black woman that starred in 'the bodyguard' (hate when i cant remember names), and several others i'm not recalling at the moment :( and yeah, i even like britney too :)

only thing i dont like about mariah is when she hits those extremely high notes. i think my head is going to explode like a glass. amazing, but too piercing.

What are you, Gawain? Her PR manager? I wish though I have met her a few times and believe me the pictures dont do her justice. I left out that she also won the best singing voice on MTV, She also has a 7 octave voice that no one else has and if you go by sales no one comes close.

Quote[/b] ]the black woman that starred in 'the bodyguard' (hate when i cant remember names)lol Whitney Huston. Id have to rate her as number three overall and second best voice.

Peggy Lee, not really for the looks but she has this teasing voice, and I believe she wrote her own work. 'Fever' is one of my favorite songs ever, it is just casual and cool.

I prefer rock and heavy metal etc. but Leann Rymes is pretty good (great looks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ), new artist coming out Joss Stone has a pretty incredibly voice, Enya's pretty good as well.

Quote[/b] (Rufus @ July 06 2004,17:39)] Janet Jackson - yes, even before the Super Bowl
Janet Jackson has an extremely weak voice IMO. her voice has no gumption at all. no depth. no complexity. her voice is merely a soft, weak whimper. she can't sing in my books.

Rufus
07-07-2004, 00:29
I actually haven't liked much Janet's put out since 1993 or so. I guess I was mainly referring to '80s and early '90s Janet. Listen to Pleasure Principle, Love Will Never Do Without You, Black Cat and Rhythm Nation - there is some real range and variety there.

Thanks Gawain - the first is better than the second, don't you think? I forgot about her big '80s hair, though - eesh In the second one she must be on something, as she often was back then ...

I have to add Jessica Simpson since we're talking looks here, and her voice, from what I've heard so far, isn't bad.

And we appreciate that. Try and keep any girlie pix in threads clearly marked, like Soly's women of thread. That way guys coming here through their work computers don't stumble across a girlie pic, and get busted by their company's NetNanny software.

This thread is fine, since the topic sub-title hints that looks are a factor. One would expect pix.

Finally: pix rules: No uncovered butt-crack, no uncovered nipples, no genitalia at all, no depiction of intercourse. In other words: PG-13. Thanks.

p.s. I thought Stevie Nicks was pretty hot, too, 20 years ago. :)

Very good choices here http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

But I would have to add Allyson Krause...
She is very good looking, but I do admit
she does not touch the younger female
artists in all-round sexyness. Of course
she is in her 40's.

A couple others to think about:
-Amy Lee
-Faith Hill
-Myleene Klass

Nice Gawain ..That second pic of Stevie Nicks looks like pre Fleetwood Mac...

One of the finest performances by a live artist ( male or female ) would have to be Stevie ( and Fleetwood Mac ofc ) singing Rhiannon, this was shown on the final Old Grey Whistle Test. I can't think of any female artists who could match that performance.

For an old codger like me Stevie was the bomb back in the day. For a woman aproaching 60 shes still pretty hot. I sure wouldnt throw her out of bed. When it come to doing duos shes hard to beat. Take *Leather and lace* with her and Allman or the one with Tom Petty and the heart breakers. She has to me the most distinctive voice of any woman in R&R.

I love Linda Ronsdadt also that no one has mentioned yet. Although she is now a cow in her day she was a babe.

Shakira is a lot hotter than Aguilera. Shakira has the not quite a slut vibe going on, whereas the others are full-fledged nasty sluts that i wouldn't wanna touch with a 10 ft pole, seeing as i'd probably be the 10 000th guy to have touched them that day

i just saw a TimeLife infomercial the other night and it was showing a clip of the video from the band Heart, Crazy on You

oh my goodness that was the first time i'd ever seen any of that video - and the two second clip that the informercial showed had me thinking: HOLY CRAP Ann Wilson was hotttt back then

she's number 1 on my list now. Ann Wilson from Heart, when she was young. wowzers

I dont find Britney hott at all, I know sevrral girls who could beat Britney easily in any beauty contest. I hate country music though, so I just turn the volume all the way down, switch the channel to the country music channel, and watch Shania.... https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
