Baldur's Gate 3????

Rumors have it that Atari is seriously thinking (or being at work at) developing a third incarnation of allegedly the best RPG series of the past 7-8 years (at least for yours truly and Efrem, don't start ranting, I know that BG suckz, Morrorwind is da best man https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ).

I tried to search, but the only thing I've found are some vague references to what an Atari exec said - and the only thing he said was in the lines of it is a great franchise (both BG and NWN - yes the rumor extends to NWN 2) and we might just develop a 3 (2 for NWN).

So, have you heard anything? Any good sources? Any rumours? Whatever?

Bioware made the games and they are currently working on Jade empire and Dragon Age, i guess we could see them work on BG3 and NWN 2 after those titles..i havent heard any rumours yet though

I think it is very unlikely Bioware would do either BG3 or NWN2, which greatly lowers my expectations about the quality of either title. However, Bioware's outsourcing of KOTR2 to a promising developer (Obsidian?) gives some hope for a decent sequel.

Another possibility would be Troika (they published under the Atari banner)- the admirable ToEE engine would be perfect for a BG3 and while the hack n slash content ToEE was a disappointment, combining the excellent content of Arcanum with the engine of ToEE would make a very creditable BG3.

NWN2 I am less sure about, but also a little less interested in. The existing engine seems ok and to have life left in it, but DnD without a party is like Hamlet without the Prince of Denmark.
