I'm posting this for info. I've found it hard to mod many files in Win98SE because it would lock up my machine forcing a hard reset. I finally did a web search and think I've gotten to the bottom of it. IE6 updates a lot of stuff including wordpad.exe and large directory deletions. It breaks it pretty badly, resulting in a memory leak and lock up while in use. It seems to be related to Bill Gates' illegal and unnecessary integration of the browser with the OS. Don't know if it effects ME, but it is the source of many problems in SE.

Anyway, I finally hunted down a freeware text editor, now I can look at the files without locking up. I'm using NotePad Lite. If anyone has better suggestions for an editor, fire away.

Yes, I'll eventually dump 98SE, but there are a few things that keep me from migrating at the moment.
