The PAK files
PAK files are a format developed CA in which all kinds of files and folders are stored. The following PAK files are located at Data\packs:
battle_open.pak
game_init.pak
models_building_textures.pak
Contains textures for buildings at the battlefield.
models_unit_textures.pak
Contains textures for units at the battlefield.
sprites_0.pak
sprites_1.pak
ui_0.pak
Contains portraits.
ui_1.pak
Contains interface related files like infopics, icons and the interface itself

The XPAK files
Vercingetorix has made the following tools:
xpak.exe, download
This program does it all, PAKing and unPAKing. But it does nothing on itself. To make it work you need the bat files that contain commands for xpak.exe.
xpak.bat
UnPAKs all R:TW PAK files.
sampleExtract.bat,
...
samplePak.bat
PAKs the files listed in the text file generated by sampleDirList.bat
sampleDirList.bat, download
Makes a list of all files and directories that reside into a certain directory and places it into a text file. This is needed for samplePak.bat.

Download the entire set in one file from this link:
http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Rtw_Uploads/RTWupload/
File name = xpak_tool_Vercingetorix.zip

Extracting PAK files
To extract files you will need to place XPAK.bat in the same folder as the PAK files. You can do this in your R:TW installation folder and then Data\packs, but make sure that you always backup! Double click XPAK.bat and all the PAK files will be extracted.

Alternatively you can make a new folder and place a single PAK file and the XPAK files. This will have the advantage of shortening running time since it will only extract one PAK.
