Why is it that Geisha apply a fake eyebrow to the middle of their forehead? Wassup with that!

Is it particularly attractive to you guys? I find it disconcerting myself.

P.S. As per your request I'm just trying to increase the topic count in here http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

For a while, it was also the fashion for aristocratic women to blacken their teeth. Or maybe they chewed on too much licorice.

Today, the fashion is almost the opposite. The Japanese women I know are unhappy with their faint eyebrows. Most darken and extend them.

I think the tiny eyebrow marks in the center makes the face look very soft and round. Maybe that's the effect they were looking for.

Black Ship,

good question. it may have something to do with beauty or godliness or something, but I know it was the accepted practice for many of the more aristocratic women to have the...

"painted on eyebrows an inch or two higher than they should have been" if you ever see a movie or pictures with women from the sengoku jidai, you will notice the distinct eyebrow being too high.

I guess it has a lot to do with the reasons plastic surgeons are getting rich. Botox injection, anyone?

Just a guess, but the Blackened teeth was probly to cover BAD teeth.

You know what's messed up, women still do that today. I've noticed many of the hard core/wanna-be chicana's with the shaved off brows, and that cheap ass black eyeliner drawn on. It looks like ass the way that they do it, usually.
Old ladies sometimes do that too. Why? I have no clue.

I'm not really too much into that "permanently surprised" look myself. Every time I say a few words and tehn look over, she'd look shocked, I tell you, shocked!!
