I just found a game from 10 years ago that sems like a prehistoric STW.

Funny thing, the game is still dowloadble http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for the link! This is one game I would definitely have bought for my SNES, but it never reached Finland (I guess it was a too distant subject for European audiences - bah, STW sold here like nowhere else). Now, it shall join Sword of the Samurai in my archive of games that I like more than life itself, could play any time I want to, but still never play... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

'Sword of the Samurai' - a great game that deserved to be given a 'gold' treatment (as in '1942' and 'Pitates').
You know, I'd say that the real daddy (or grandpa) of STW was Impression's 'Conquest of Japan'.

There's so many things that the Nobunaga's Ambition series does so well on the strategic level that a number of us wish they had been adopted by the Shogun team.

The SNES version is prettier, but simpler in structure, with less options. Still, it's my preferred version when I want a quick game of trying to take a weak daimyo all the way to Shogun. Fortunately, although my SNES is long since gone, I have found a emulation rom of it, so it can be found. If anyone needs help finding it, I may be able to help out.

Conquest of Japan (http://www.theunderdogs.org/game.php?name=Conquest+of+Japan) was a game I never got into for some reason. I think it was mostly because I was still enthralled with the Lords of the Rising Sun for the Amiga, which was a much more enticing game (and, as the kid I was back then, I didn't realize the distinction between 12th and 16th century Japan). I still never have gotten into it...then again, I wasn't much for the Cohorts-esque battle system - it's just never appealed to me.

Sword of the Samurai definitely deserves a remake. Trying to get my programming friend to spend the time to help make a free fan-based one has been the equivalent of trying to fight an uphill battle against warrior monks in the forest, as he's just not into either the genre of game or subject. I'm still working on him though, especially since there's a whole lot of Shogun fans who'd like to play it and he's into getting exposure.

I remember how excited I was about 'Conquest of Japan' when I bought it, rushed home... and was a bit crestfallen. I think I played it a total of four times. There was no strategic element to speak of - you had a number of castles you started out with, randomly placed on the map every time you played, and recieved new troops every turn. You then just sent your army wandering across the map to capture the other guy's castles.
Years ago, there was going to be a 'Great Battles' title based on GMT's 'Samurai' but this was canned in development - which I thought was a shame. I never really got into 'Hannibal' or 'Caesar', but a wargame that would let you refight Nagashino and Kawanakajima seemed like a good thing in my book.

If there was a top ten list of what is the main thing people think of when they hear of the City of Dallas
one would be the TV show Dallas and the other would be that movie.

Say im out of town and i mention to a person im from Dallas the usual response from

women is "Oh like the TV show Dallas" or something like that.

Men is "hey like that movie Peggie....no Debbie does Dallas" They actually know the correct name of the movie but they throw in the slip up intentionally. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif Funny how people are.

Sorry about being off topic http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif
