I happen to be very interested in the Greek/Roman era. These are mainly greek/roman military websites.

greek stuff: http://www.legion-fourteen.com/greeks.htm http://history.evansville.net/greece.html http://www.hackneys.com/alex_web/alexfram.htm

roman: http://encarta.msn.com/find/Concise.asp?ti=05A54000 http://www.netstoreusa.com/books/index/bkixhjw.shtml http://www.livinghistory.co.uk/links/roman.htm http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Oracle/6622/

Enjoy!

Visit Pompeii, preferably on a rainy day... the silence as you walk the very streets of a Roman city, peer into their homes as they left them.... it's powerful

Haven't been there, but Herculaneum might be a great choice, too

Try www.romanarmy.com (http://www.romanarmy.com) for stuff on...well..the Roman Army! Be sure to check the forum they have there and ask away.
