Anyone know where I can get Shogun the movie/mini series or either VHS or DVD? I saw the whole thing a long time ago and I have only been able to find the cut version.

you can rent the movie at any Blockbuster, but I highly recommend going through the trouble to get the miniseries instead. You'll just feel cheated on the two-hour movie, like I was.

Yeah I did that once, I was very disapointed. Do they have the mini series at Blockbuster? I found it once online, it was 6 tapes for $200. I can't remember where it was though.

Online auctions are great places to track stuff like that down >>> though the book really blows the movie away!

I haven't read the book yet. Isn't it super long though?

Yeah but it passes way too quickly though, trust me! and Clavell writes in such a way that you just eat up the words >>> Shogun is a must read! You want it to go on forever and there is a TON of plot missing from the series. The way you feel ripped off by the short version of the movie is how you feel when seeing the whole thing after reading the book. This not to say that I dont love the movie >>> it is just Shogun Light.

Asakura,

I went through the novel twice in the span of maybe 3 weeks, and I wasn't even reading all day or anything. It truly flies and grabs you. You have to have a bit of an eye for detail but it's a fascinating story.

You can find the Shogun Miniseries online at E-bay and other auction sites OR you can order it at www.paramount.com (http://www.paramount.com) OR you can wait for it to come on TV (I believe either or both Bravo and TNT show it at least once a year). I have a tv taped version that's very old and a newer bought version. Been a fan since I was very young. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Something else of interest,

James Clavell's Shogun, both the miniseries and novel, are basically just rearrangements of the true story. The main guy, Toranaga, is Tokugawa Ieyasu. Ishido is Ishida Mitsunari from Sekigahara who took over the Toyotomi Clan after Hideyoshi's death, references to the "late Taiko" are Hideyoshi, Anjin-san is William Adams and Mariko is the Lady Gracia Kuroda. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Course, if you want, you can check this all out on my Shogun website hehe, www.angelfire.com/movies/Shogun. (http://www.angelfire.com/movies/Shogun.)

yeah reading it is probably thebest way to get through the story; the miniseries and movie are nonexistent in Ran-like battle sequences so you're not missing anything visually....
