Ten or so years ago I saw an awesome Chow Yuen Fatt film on late night TV. It was a two parter consisting of 'title' and 'title' Part 2. The name may have had the word 'legend in it'.

I have searched for Chow Yuen Fatt filmographies on the internet, but none are definitive. Surely there must be an official site where u can slap in an actors name and it'll give you every film he's ever been in?

Please help, cos I gotta get this film - I'm so fed up with people raving on about Crouching Tiger (which was good) but this other one was way better!

Thanx http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Have you tried the Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com) page? They've often come through for me in finding obscure movies or actors.

I will freely admit that I haven't seen a whole lot of Chow Yun Fat's early work, but he hasn't done a whole lot of fantasy/'legendary-historical' works...most of his are more or less modern films. More guns than swords/martial arts.

Could it possibly have been someone else? Jet Li has done a number of historical pieces, with some being numbered parts and a few with 'Legend' in the title. You may want to take a look at his filmography as well.

If you come across it, you'll have to tell us, since you remember it so fondly. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Ok, me again...

After extensive searching I have concluded that this movie is not available in the UK. It was suggested to me that it may get released on DVD sometime soon, but one knows.

Does anyone know the date that the American DVD version was released?

Anyone else have any other ideas? Any Brits have a copy that they'd flog or copy for me? I'm real desperate to get hold of it.

Thanx guys.

Hey NinjaKilla,

You like Jet Li (that's Mr. Jet Li) ?

Check out "Tai-chi Master" and "New Legend of Shaolin". With "Fong Sai-Yuk" they are his best (my opinion).
Other notable ones are "Once upon a time in China I" (note The I and not II or III) and "Once upon a time in China and America" (fight scenes are awesome and actors s*cks big time).

Glad to see you found it.

Figured Fong Sai Yuk was the ones you were looking for, but didn't want to mislead you if they weren't. They're two of my favorite Hong Kong martial arts movies. Although others will immediately call up 'better', more hard-core martial arts movies, I personally like the Fong Sai Yuk movies because they're a good combination of humor and action...they don't have as much...or as good...action as other movies, but they're a blast to watch and have been the best movies for me to introduce others to the genre (there are few HK action movies you can get an average woman who has no prior interest in the genre to sit through...FSY has proven to be one of them).

The Lengend, as the Legend of Fong Sai Yuk Part 1 is called on DVD here in the states, came out late last year or early this year...I can't remember. It's a pretty, saturated print and has a respectable dubbing (some of the actors really sound like they got into the characters and weren't just reading lines). The second one hasn't been released yet, as far as I know of.

There may be an option for you to obtain both on DVD, though. I'm not sure if they'll ship to the UK, but you may want to check out HiVi Zone (http://www.hivizone.com). Under Hong Kong DVDs (and then, under 'F') you'll find region-free versions of Fong Sai Yuk I & II. Given that I wanted the second one on DVD, I wound up ordering both. The first one is of similar picture quality to the American-only DVD. The main difference is that it's in its original language with the option of English subtitles (which is how I generally prefer foreign movies, unless the dubbing is spectacular). The cost of the DVDs themselves is pretty inexpensive, but the shipping is a killer (fortunately, the first three DVDs you order all cost the same to ship).

What exactly is a 'region-free' DVD? Will it work on PAL systems?

I was told that DVDS like this get released in the Uk about 6 months after the US, so maybe I'll wait.

Thanx again.
