Men and Monsters: Total War
http://www.stratcommandcenter.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2675

At present im maintaining a number of posts relating to many things across a number of websites and so if you can refer to the above address for updates, that'd save me a lot more work recreating the whole thing here! :dizzy2: I will however post major update news here to let you all know when something bigs been finished! As you will see at the link, quite a lot has been done so far including menu graphical changes and text descriptions etc! The only thing im lacking is good knowledge in campaign modding! So any help would be appreciated!

Regards

Welcome to the Men and Monsters Campaign:

The world is unmoving. Time has always seen the Order of men existing in a medieval-like era. The lush plains that make up Sanctuary are filled with elaborate and beautiful towns, all encircling the wonderous Castle of Equilibrium. The people farm, learn and train in the academy to become a soldier or scholar of 'The Order'.

'Sanctuary'
The Castle of Equilibrium has been the home to the members of the elected Council since its very beginnings. These educated men and women oversee the affairs of Sanctuary and it's border realms.

The border realms themselves offer a harder life for its people. Completely encircling Sanctuary, these border lands provide the essential stone and metals that furnish every building and suit of armour. Laws and protection are provided in these realms by Lords of 'The Order'.

These Lords share many of the same standard units, but they also have their own unique units which greatly changes their strengths. Lord Karlsson can train his infamous 'Border Cavalry', Lord Banok can train his excellent 'Lifebringer Crossbows' and Lord Rothmer can train his unmistakable 'Vanguard Swordsmen'.

Their forts and strongholds are Sanctuary's main line of defence against the many dangers that lurk in the frontier lands and the epic world beyond.
[attachmentid=1567]

'Frontier Lands'
Sanctuary is not the only habitat of men however. Adventurers and traders have moved further afield into the hazardous but rewarding environment. Such outer realms inhabited by men are refered to as the 'Frontier Lands'.

The 'Dark Forest' is a prime frontier region made up of vast woodland that spans dozens of provinces. Many brave adventurers and traders have attempted passage deeper into this frontier region but very few return or get far. The gold and gem rich mines are the lure for many men. The forest also holds less desirable things however. Crude and vicious monsters inhabit the central and western areas. The frontier trading posts and towns are, as a result, rife with mercenaries and bandits.

Monsters are not the only danger in this world however. A powerful being known as the Witch-Queen begrudges all with her unnatural minions. From the rocky eastern regions, she commands them out of her castle to stalk the living.
[attachmentid=1660]

Those brave enough, or desperate enough to inhabit the frontier towns bordering the rocky eastern regions fall victim all too often to these unnatural beings. The people are, as a result, wary of outsiders. Early curfews and town patrols are enforced by well paid 'Grudgebringer' mercenaries who are led by a captain. Their presence along with the hardy frontiersmen and adventurers provide sufficient force to ensure the towns are well defended. Passage between towns however is a very risky business and the price of escorts is reflective.
[attachmentid=1815]

'The Summoner'
In the days before your campaign starts, the omen came to pass that would warn of The Summoner's comming. For five days, the sky turned violet and red lightning danced through the clouds. The thunder shook the ground, as if the very balance of nature was being broken. On the fifth day, above the din of all this came the sound of a booming voice. The Summoner's words had finally reached the people of Sanctuary from a great distance, for he stood in the Temple of Origin, in the realm of ancient sands. These were the words he had spoken five days ago before his Dark Crusade had begun:

"I have come! I have entered your land! I am he who has summoned those who drank of the 'Dark Chalice'! I bring them now to wreak destruction in your world! Let their weapons taste all creatures that live! On man and beast alike! Tremble!!! For you all are at the end of your time!"

Brilliant, brilliant. Most of the things seem to be texture only. I honestly cannot wait to see the Ferestompas!

I hope this mod goes all the way, I really do.

[Sion] Grudgebringer
12-05-2004, 02:16
Yup, most the units on the site are original models!

As i said over on my main thread a while back, i started creating models at first but realised it was very time consuming and difficult to form without knowing what they were susposed to look like! (I really am just creating a world from scratch and although i started with some familiar themes ive since seen things evolve as my ideas create the storyline).

In order to provide me with a better idea of what i was doing and what the world was gonna be like (since ive been comming up with more and more details AS the units are made) i decided to mod as many textures as possible FIRST using the existing models, and then see what changes i had to make to the existing game models SECOND so i would know what i was doing and going for when modifying them! :dizzy2:

Anyway as you noticed, ive got a handful of models sat waiting to be textured and implemented! When i finish creating the textures for all the units i can possibly use existing models for, i can then set to work with the easy task of modifiying the unit models as i see fit, retexturing until im happy!

This will also mean when i embark on the arduous modelling process, im not left with a daunting amount of work ahead! Because at this stage id already have the units at beta phase and almost as they should be with all the txt file editing done, pictures and stats etc. All that id have to do is change the model lines in the necessary files to implement them! I really have planned this out, dont you worry! ~:)

This is a complete conversion of Rome: Total War and takes place in an epic Medieval-Fantasy realm.

Players will be take on the hazardous duties of one of the Lords of the Order in the campaign. A prologue campaign will iintroduce you to the world and see you carry out the duties of protection and enforcement around the border lands. The prologue will end with the comming of the dark omen!

In the campaign, players will take on missions from Sanctuary in order to resist the Summoner and his dark forces who have entered the world in the far away regions of the ancient deserts. It will be necessary to fight your way through dense woodland, rocky terrain and arid plains all inhabited by inhospitable creatures and unnatural beings. Meanwhile, the task of defending Sanctuary and your border lands will add to your problems.

Another thing to note is my aim for a different management style. To reflect the nature of the environment and way of the world, occupying most Dark Wood regions will actually incur a debt and any settlement attempted can only be village size. This makes forts a more desirable and realistic choice when securing your route through this dangerous forest spanning dozens of regions.

Basically, only predetermined regions that are noted for treasures, valuables or a human presence can generate an income.

Also playeres should note the Summoner can only call forth minions from his entry point in the 'Temple of Origin' region. This means as he conquers lands he gains the power to create more undead units but these can still only be produced in the 'Temple of Origin region'. He will still have to condend with rebels however representing the people he displaces as he crushes towns and villages on his unholy march.

I'll be putting up a rough map of Sion tommorow! This should provide people with details on The Order's territories and it's immediate threats. People should note the territories shown are but a small part of the world and will serve as the boundaries in the prologue campaign.

Great stuff!

I especially like the mountains in the second pic. I have difficulty making mountains look that good.

I found using the Triviums Map editor to paint exactly where I had the high moutain areas to work best. I tried doing it through PSP with the ground types as a layer beneath my heights map but I just didnt get that great of results.
