Quick question folks, I was playing an MP battle this evening and had just stormed up the rice paddies of Harima with my YC and butchered my opponents horrendously exposed SA general unit and killed them to a man...now usually at this point victory shoulda been mine, instead he just kept on going...what the hell???

Who ever said that you need your Taisho to win. I've won several battles in which my Taisho gave the ultimate sacrifice. Although its a serious morale penalty the battle aint over until the fat Geisha sings or somethin.

Depends entirely on the honour of your troops. I had my general die very early on in a high koku game, but instead of a rout I was able to persevere my way to victory- yeah me!!

Another time I had 17 arquies remaining out of a once mighty army http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif, and darned if those peasants didn't fight to the last man http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Honour is everything http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Yes, it could have been pointed out in the thread about High honor vs large armies.
You're not doomed when your general is killed, with high honor units.

By the way, I've been wondering for some time about the loss of honor following the death of a general. Is this morale penality permanent, until the end of the battle, or is it only a temporary thing, meaning that if your units don't break immediatly after taisho's death, their morale will be unaffected thereafter? Does someone has a hint about it?

I'm refering to a 0 honor general, like in MP games,of course, as I assume that in SP games, units will immediatly and permanently loose the honor bonus granted by an experienced general.

Clair,
It's been my experience in online play that if your units survive the loss of you Taisho, there is no permanent loss of morale. There have been occasions where I have lost my Taisho and the troops I was able to rally seemed to fight harder than before (probably my imagination, but samurai seeking revenge ala 47 Ronin works for me).

Well...my peeve was that I had quite literally thrown evrything I had into this hill assault and i was hoping against hope that throwing my YC against his taisho unit, praying he wouldn't disengage any YS from the melee would dismay his troops enough for me to rout them and win...didna happen http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

What pissed me off was that I had the tactical advantage at the time but not the numbers, I was turning his flank and was preparing to use the remnants of my YC to chase his men off the champs de battaile. The reason i thought to complain about it was that i had won other MP battles just by losing my taisho and lost others by the same token, so this battle just confused me.

Killing off the enemy Taisho was a tactic I picked up from playing against the AI, where killing an enemy Taisho is more rewarding, especially a good general or heir. Also the AI tends to have low honour troops, so routing is likely. However I have found it to be less effective in MP games. I have stopped using the 'go all-out for the Taisho' tactic now simply because it wasn't working. However, you should kill/rout the enemy Taisho if the chance comes along, and focus your fire on him if he is within arrow/musket range.

It seems that it is also harder if not virtually imposible to rally units that break after your Taisho gives his all.

Anyone else seen this?
