the public beta release is now getting very close - probably right before or right after christmas. To celebrate this I've uploaded some new screenshots from the historical battle of Clontarf (actualy the battle is already over). Enjoy :)

It looks realy impresive... if You need any help with making this mod i can help. I don't have any possibility making new models but i can help with making unit stats bilansed and editing text files. I can help with historical events for Medieval (especialy early med. and for XI- XII age, especially eastern Europe) also if you have any problem with creating armies also I can help (original units from medieval sucks a bit. There were real formations in almost every country, not only Feudal Knights, Chivalaric etc (I thing it's stupid)) .

Awesome...can't wait to see it. I don't know how you guys always manage to invest much of your time into such great mods...but what I know for sure is that I like the results of it!

we haven't changed animation speeds yet, but none of the units uses RTW's fastest animations, so you wont see any archers outrunning light cavalry :P

we are further then the large majority of other mods :P

the "demo" will only include 2 historical battles and custom battle/multiplayer support. It's mainly a teaser to show the world what to expect from our mod, and for proper balance testing :)

Jepp, there is still a lot of work to be done before we can release a full campaign. We are going to add a huge amount of unit, new buildings and other cool stuff.

Maybe it is a bit early, but still, will your mod overwrite the vanilla game or work like vikinghorde's MTW mod?

it'll overwrite RTW, there is currently no decent way to let mods run without affecting RTW

Do you plan on giving your units their true names (i.e like in WesMod for MTW where he gave german names for the german units etc...) ? I know it's a detail but it often adds flavour to a game. I'm eager to try this mod ~;)

maybe, but some units will be shared and therefor use the same names. So a faction like germany (HRE) would end up having units with german names and some with english names.

and also i have the realism mod instaled will i be able to do anything on the rtw engine after i install this mod or will i be able to play both the realism mod along witht he demo(finally will the unit numbers change)

You could try the Rome mod switcher - developed by the Trivium, you can find them somewhere on twcenter.com - I believe the switcher would let you keep all of the mods and maybe the original on a SINGLE installation, saving time and memory! I haven't gotten around to trying it, but that is what it sounds like it does. So maybe Chivalry Total War could have a switcher file, no? ~;)

the RTW install that has Chivalry installed on top of it will not run anything but Chivalry TW (beta and future releases).

I am aware of the mod switcher, and will have a look and see if it'll work with our mod (which is a total conversion).

The mod is on scedual for a late Xmas release, I'm about to fix the last glitches in models and textures :)

well if worse comes to worst i could copy my current rtw so i have to9 versions but i reely dont wanna cus thatll take a whole lot of compute space so i reely hope you guys find a way to get two versions to wok at once(more people will likely download then) what do you mean late xmas release

Well humvee2800 if they could they would. But CA hasn't provided this ability and I don't think they can make it. I hope the rmd format works but otherwise having to copy is the norm.

I've decided not to use rdm format. It's not very easy to create, and altho it would work for this beta it will nolonger work for the next one which will include the campaignmap (cos it will affect the packed files aswell). Maybe someone else will create the rdm generation script, but I don't think it's worth the trouble.

I suppose I'm among the first players ~;p
I've played all the historical battles and a few custom ones and have yet to encounter a single crash ~;) I haven't seen any oddities either.

The graphic part of the game is well designed, especially some shields like the Norman spearmen's. I'm not browsing the text files as I used to with MTW, so is it me or you have reduced the number of arrows available to the archers? If so I think it's not a bad idea for the archers are a bit overpowered in RTW.


EDIT : I forgot to mention that the units are available to all the factions whatever their names (e.g Normans available to the Danish etc..) in custom battle. I assume it was done on purpose though.

yes archer ammo is reduced to 20 instead of 30, mostly to decrease the duration of the archer duel which usually opens MP games. Archers are certainly not the killing machines from RTW, but they do force your enemy to go on the offence, and they can do some nasty damage when targeting unprepared units.

All factions have the same units in this beta for balance testing. They'll get their own historical units in the next beta.

This mod already looks absolutely excellent! Well done to everyone involved. I cannot wait for the final release.
Is there any chance of some Roman units being retained? It's just that it would be cool to do some King Arthur era battles and so very late Roman units i.e. early Dark Age stuff, would be excellent for that. All it would really need is some kind of late infantry that does not look to different from the late legions and Germanic type spearmen, and maybe a cataphract type unit.
I suppose one could add some units back in to use them in custom battles; or do you plan to use as many units as possible? Keep up the good work!

There is already a Dark Age Mod in the works. It has been dulled for few weeks, but all it takes is some enthusiasts who are willing to add to the project.

~:cheers: WOW, Great job so far, its my fav time line and every thing. Please let me help, I can skin and do most all text related stuff, Could work on a single faction or something like the Irish/Scottish (the Irish faction Better be in their :furious3:). I was planing a long time ago few months before RTW release to do a medieval mod but I got a virus and my comp did a crash and burn, I lost a lot of info I had on factions/units (was a lot of good work in it to ~:confused: ).

Actually just got back into modding RTW heres a few test models I did today to get use to making new units.
