MESOAMERICAN TOTAL WAR

I've been thinking about starting this project for a long time. I've decided I have enough resources and means to make this mod now. But what is it going to be about?

The basic concept is that there are going to be native american factions only. No conquistadors. Time period is going to be like medieval times in Europe so IV-XV centuries. But don't worry it's not going to be a one big campaign. There will be probably three campaigns set in different times and with some different factions too. For example in early campaign there will for sure not be the Incas who appeared much later, and so on.

As for the senate and the tripple alliance thing I'm not yet sure but have made some initial arrangements.

Factions:

Tenotihuacan
Aztec
Tarascan
Toltec
Tlaxcalan
Mixtec
Zapotec
Copan
Tikal
Chichen Itza
Caracol
Calakmul
Mayapan
Inca
Chan Chan
Collas
Chanca
Huanca
Chachapoyan

This list will probably be updated and rearranged later, it's just a temporal arrangement. Tenotihuacan faction represents the Great Temple of Quetzatlcoatl in that city, an influential political center for medieval Central America.

Units:

I'm researching the units and for now I have a pretty good general view on Mesoamerican warfare. For more important conclusions I've made for now is that there are not going to be any ships in this mod. There will only be land warfare. This is because Mesoamerican cultures didn't develop fleets and ships for military usage, nor even for trade purposes (at least not on a noticable scale).

Tipes of units to appear in this mod are mostly: slingers, macemen, javelinmen, swordsmen, spearmen, axemen, archers, dartmen, bolla throwers, all of various types, plus a number of special units like priests (will remake druids) and animals and supernatural beings too. I think supernatural creatures will give the mod a very much Mesoamerican feel as for example Kings of the mighty Classic period city of Tikal in the southern lowlands carried the title Ch'ul Way Ahaw, Holy Transformer Lord, surely exalting their ability to become Otherworldly beings in times of necessity such as combat.

Buildings:

There will be all kinda new buildings: from Sacred Huacas to Great Quetzatlcoatl Temple to Cori Cancha and so on. RTW walls and cities will only need a texture change to look Mesoarmerican, at leat for the time being.

Other things:

I'm planning to use the Senate missions extensively and to adjust them to Mesoamerican reality. The Xochiyaoyotl (The Wars of Flowers) will replace Senate's conquest missions. The granted exotic units will be the superlatural units, very rare and very powerfull (compensating the fact there will be no real cavalry in Mesoamerican TW).

This post will be updated later, a lot.

sounds good, I thought about this setting as a possible mod but in a slightly different time period (a bit earlier). Don't know about supernatural units though they might unbalance gameplay.
Good luck with it anyway!

The Inca Empire (called Tawantinsuyu in modern spelling Aymara and Quechua), or Tahuantinsuyu in old spelling Quechua). Will you be using the Quechua and/or Aymara spellings?

However, the Aztec referred to himself as Mexica (IPA [meˈʃihkah], SAMPA [me"Sihkah]) or Tenochca. Ditto with the Aztecs. Still, looking forward to this mod. We need a mod in Mesoamerica. :)

I know about Tawantisuyu (that is "The Four Quarters") and the name will be used here and there (Tawantisuyu "Imperial" troop types). As for the Mexica/Aztec thing, I know about it as well only that probably if I put Mexica on the list, there'd be all those people saying I forgot one of the major players etc. Name Aztec creates no confusion, but yes I am going to use Quechua, Nahuatl as well as names in other indigenous Mesoamerican languages. Still, not everyone is a specialist on Pre-columbian empires and so the names for the discussed factions will most likely remain Inca and Aztec.

The supernatural creatures are for now an idea that can wait, but should they appear in this mod they would be very few in numbers (but yes-very powerfull).

The map will be a thing to think over, because I want it to go from Mexico to Chile but don't want to make it wide and short, rather in proportions of vanilla RTW map (kinda same rectangular shape I mean).

Thank you all for your feedback.

The map I can do myself, but you could help me with the units.
Can you model, skin them?

I'm currently more busy with P&M, but that's because there are certain things there to finish. Soon I will have enough time to do something Mesoamerican, and the first thing will be map and unit rosters for all factions.

I have some interesting ideas concerning the gameplay and senate's missions, you'll see later.

I've received several PMs from people who want(ed?) to help, and what I want to say it that if anyone wants to help me making Mesoamerican, you can write here, straight up! ~

as mercenaries you should include Araucanian Long-range bowmen with 6-foot arrows
