The ZX Mod is a gameplay balance mod thought to give some spice to the gameplay and differentiate the various factions better.

Some examples:

The Italians are the only major faction able to train western militia and Halberdiers.
They lacks heavy infantry in early and gets the halberds in high.
Also, they will only be able to train light cavarly in their home territories until late, where they will get the lancers.
While still able to got toe-to-toe with most factions they lack the sheer strenght usually available with most catholic elite troops.
Of course their exclusive infantry is still available, allowing the Italians to keep their solid front.

The Danes on the opposite are an heavy infantry faction.
Thanks to their Viking infantry they can crush all but the most determined foes.
Killing Danish kings is now harder than ever, as the royal knights are gone in favour of the Varangian Guard as royal unit.
All this foot might is balanced by a pitiful cavalry, good only for pursuits or when placed afoot.

The Sicilians are now a quite different faction.
While lacking the catholic most powerful units they can field an unique roster composed by catholic, norse and muslim units, as an inheritance to their mixed origins.

Other factions received different changes, and some unit requisites are changed in order to give the AI a chance to build something decent.

Peasants will disappear in high, and now crossbows will play a full role until late, where arbalests will appear.

The mercenary roster has been improved, including some units from VI.

Light, medium and heavy cavalry dismounting has been revamped, giving some specialization.

Minor changes to AI behavior and minor stats changes for a few units.
