v1-12 patch problem

I am having trouble installing the upgrade patch v1-12. First of all, the zip file is not self-executing. I have to run "setup" once the files are extracted. The setup program itself reports the error that it cannot extract the readme file. I have tried the suggested solution of renaming the file so that it doesn't exceed the 8.3 character spec, but the setup program still bombs with the same error, failing to recognise the new name I have used.

Can anyone please advise?

I can't install it either! I have the exact
same problem. I just wanted to make it clear
to Electronic Arts that many people are
having this problem and their suggested fix
isn't working.
