I'm looking for the mons of the Taisho...the ones you can choose from. For example the crab, dragonfly, skull, etc...

Anyone know where the images are? And what editor works for these .bif files?

Krae...when you pick your general you can also pick what symbol will represent him...at least in custom battle and multi. It's the metallic ones I want not the flags..I found those already http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif I haven't come across them...that's why I asked about the .bif files too http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Now you're getting it!

I want to use the crab for my custom portrait. In Radiation Therapy the crab (think Cancer) is part of our emblem...so it seems like a natural http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

oh, ok. i got it now. not sure where those are stored but someone mentioned in another thread about how to read .bif's. check around, i'm pretty sure we covered that somewhere in here.

yeah, that would be nice to be able to use personalized symbols. come to think of it, it seems that there is a lot they (the dev team) could have done to allow for a lot of different mods in this game...hard to change it now that the game is out. separate folders for all the diff mod possibilities would have been nice, ala civ II.

lately, while playing multi games i've been coming across a desire to have smaller units, say 40 or even 20 'men' in a unit instead of the 60 minimum currently allowed. perhaps with smaller units we could even get more units total but that may be limited due to sprite requirements...not sure. add it to my wish list ;)

I don't think it's currently possible to edit .bif files. It may be either an obscure format, or a proprietary format used only by CA. Either way, I've never found a way of editing or viewing the .bif files.

For the record...
A 'Mon' is what Jamaican's call each other...
A 'Crab' is a grouchy person or an infestation best treated with Blue ointment
'Bif' is the sound of Batman punching out the Joker...
Hope this info is of some assistance!(Please! Stop me before I kill! hehe)

Okay, there are a few types of .BIF, which is what makes it difficult. A BIF can be Binary Information File, which can be modified with a hex editor. Some people got to change colros this way. Another BIF is a graphic file that uses the TIFF image format with a text header that sets a lot of parameters, like animation frame clipping, margin buffering, that sort of thing. There are a few of us cracking into these to try and make graphic mods for Shogun, with limited success. Threads will be posted as things develop.

Unfortunately, all that doesn't really bring us any closer to finding the Taisho mons. Sorry. I'll go through the other LBMs and such and see if I can track it down. Will update tomorrow.

some,
but not all,
of the taisho mons are in web resource kit available from the totalwar site,
in the resources section, http://www.totalwar.com
hope the ones you want are there,
wish ALL the mons were there!

ah if wishes about shogun were made of gold we'd all be rich....

good luck with the bif files,
will they be releasing a way to read/edit them with the xpansion?

here's how you find the mons. Hit F3, a window will pop up. Type in "*.bif"(don't type quotes) Then click browse and find the totalwar folder and click then hit ok. Now hit search. Look in the list it will say, Mon 1 ect. Hope this was helpfull.

Hi Legendary_Ninja-san !

Would it be possible with you *.bif technic to find and then modify then strategic map ?
I suppose that the file which contain the graphics of this map is a *.bif file too, no?

How can we "read" such a file ?
Is it an image file ?

Thanks for your answers.

Sorry draksen-san, I am trying to find an editor for the files. When I do find what kind of files they are, I will let you know. Also, I will upload the program I used onto my X-drive account.

Draksen-san, All image files ARE .bif format, AND I did find an editor, HOWEVER it doesn't seem to want to diplay these images. Sorry I couldn't help. Perhaps if you have Adobe Photo Shop, and found a plug-in to display these files, maybe then you can edit these.

Draksen, my link is not better, but on my link you go to the page that preceeds yours, so has your link on it, but also a lot more stuff which isn't too bad either.

Erado San :
I know, ok, that was just a little joke.
(Nothing more, really)
Agree with you : good page !

Legendary_Ninja San :
Try this link and download the graphic converter program:
http://www.handmadesw.com/Download_Demo/DOS_Windows.htm

With this, I hope we will be able to convert .BIF files in .BMP files, modify them, and then re-convert them in .BIF for the game...
