View Full Version : HOW ABOUT A STRATEGY MAP EDITOR?

Would it be great if we can create our own customized strategy map for STW single player games. This will add to the games replayability unlike playing it over and over again just using the map of Japan. We can then incorporate customized battle maps in our own customized strategy maps to create our own customized SP campaign map. There should also be options like: what type of buildings/units can be created, income, mines, sands, unit specialty, starting army, etc. for each of the provinces (also what clan controls each province).

I guess this will veer away from the game's historically correct concept but what the heck, I'm sure it will add to it's value and attract more gamers and a hoard of map creators.. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif …. and it's just a game (for me that is!) http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

This is just my idea and you may disagree… (but be gentle please!! I'm just a lowly Ashigaru http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif)

yes, i agree radan.

in fact, i think i posted a similar post a while back on it. i'm just curious about the feasibility of it though. i'm wondering if shogun's ai doesnt rely on the current map for part of its intelligence and that by altering the map the ai wouldnt get more ignorant. regardless, i think it's a good idea and would love to see it happen.

The strategy map only conforms to some very basic historical accuracies, so don't assume it's "set in stone" the way it is to conform to history. The Imagawa did not have Kyushu landholdings, the Takeda did not have western landholdings, the Uesugi never held Mutsu or Dewa, the Hojo only had Sagami (not Takeda) in the period the campaign starts, and slowly conquered more, and the region the Oda clan starts with didn't have anything near that size until about 1573 or so.

I think the reason the strat map never changes for replay value has more to do with laziness/convenience of clan placement than historical "cement" accuracy. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Why did you bring 16 Female Ashigaru? Keep clicking weather, they're only strong one week a month.

Great idea, but for the editing forum.

KRAELLIN, I know the idea is far from being implemented with STW but I hope they will
include it on future games patterned with the SHOGUN style of play ( with dragons, orcs, etc.)

Hey LORDTED, I would like to join your clan with EVILC but obviously I'm not qualified and never will be (I have never played online cause I hate to see my beloved ashigaru army running from the enemy http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif ). Nice site though… http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

dragons and orcs? You mean a fantasy aspect added in? The Age of Empires line did something similar with "Age of Mythology".
