For now I have found some turkish, russian, ukrainian, polish and westerneuropean military and nonmilitary music, but it is not enough for now. If you have anything to present post it, please.

I can only think of the obvious ones: some religious music or choirs...

Thanks to NormanPain I have quite good sources of westerneuropean music, including the church one, but there are also soldiers' march music and similar.

I can give you some links if you send me an email Swordmaster. You could listen to it in your spare time ~D if you have any... :book: :book: :charge:

My friends i have great news for you.

Like i promised a few months ago, i finally made the custom mod theme. I had the compositions for a while, but now that i finished school I finally produced the actual song.

It took me a few hours on fruity loops, but it isn't yet the final version. I still plan on chancing and perfecting a few things, and obviously equalizing it.

It isnt 16th/17th century music, it is more like a generic epic song. If you don't want it to be the theme song, or if you don't like it tell me.
I think it would be a nice addon as the menu backmusic.

A mod with custom music is always a great mod ~;)

Check it here:
http://pwp.netcabo.pt/the_dementor/pike_and_musket_theme.mp3

Go ahead comment on it.

It's a 128kbps file. It wasnt encoded in mp3 pro because i was being too lazy at the time.

Also, i want to inform you that im registering a new account in this forum. tHe_dEmEnToR was an old name i used, however i ended up registering it at the time.
My new account will be Infestus.

Cheers, ~

Edit: A second version of the song here: http://pwp.netcabo.pt/the_dementor/pike_and_musket_theme2.mp3

First reviews - from NTW forum

quote:

This music reflects very much the mood and time of 16th - 17th centuries, dark time and birth of cultures.
In this music cello is darkness of medeival that still pressent and violin is new culture birth feeling darkness with light.

I like it, but to be honest, it sounds ghoulish to me. It has a horror movie feel with the fiddle making short erractic saws. However, once the drums come in, it sounds rather nice, and you get the feel of an uncertain time very much like the one you are trying to recreate in PMTW.

Lol @ Arman for his fussy nature.

16th-17th centuries are horror movie! It's time of most horrible battle scenes. Oprichniki, Lanchnekht and other monsters roaming on the fields. No conventios no chivalry no mercy.

Amother one:

You can tell that the music is composed on a digital keyboard. You can tell because each part is very distinctly different sounding than another part... example... the twinging of the Violin clashes with Drums. In a real composition, using various instruments, the sounds are supposed to compliment each other. Also the Ooo..OOoo doesn't really fit, a keyboard cannot effectively mimic a Gregorian Chant if only one Ooo.. Ooo note is used it doesn't sound right. A better Solution would be too have 3 separate Ooo's of varying pitches, and then 3 Bass, Baritone, and Tenor Ahhs. Sorry for being kind of harsh, but I've been around synthesized music pretty much my entire life (my older brother is a music composer for Movies and Video Games). So to me it sounds out of pitch and amateur, to some people who haven't been around it, it may sound natural. I think getting a newer Keyboard like an Alesis (for lower end budgets) would help this guy out a lot. I hope this criticism is more constructive than destructive... and if my ears betray me and that is real music... than those musicians need to take a couple more years of High School Band.

Kind Regards,
KoS

My review:

Generally I like the song, as Arman from NTW forum said there is something most adequate in this song it simply suits these times.

I don't know much about composing, but I agree that the choirs sound somehow artificial, but I am sure you can handle this later.

Another thought - I believe a part of the song ( when the drums appear for the first time to the end of you choice - just a part of this only) could be used as one of battle songs for western factions, what do you think about it ?

In addition I think that there will be 4 or 5 music 'types'

- westerneuropean catholic,
- western european protestant ( possibly without any more apparent church music),
- muslim,
- orthodox ( mostly church music, but something more dynamic as well),
- eastern european - for balcan factions, Poland, the Cossacks, The Tatars - there is enough of this as far as I think.

Some songs could appear in more than one music 'line'.

I agree. The drum part could be used in battle songs. I had already tought of that.

As soon as i make the final version we'll see that.

If you're looking for good musket fire, just pilfer the Cossacks audio files, or go to the Cossacks mod websites, people have made some great artillery and musket sounds.

We rather need something for the new soundtrack, the sounds are rather fine to me ( in MTW), anyway I have Cossack Anthology so the advise can be easily implemented ~;)

I should have posted this 2 months ago, but i was out during the holidays.
This is an alternative version of the theme:

http://pwp.netcabo.pt/the_dementor/pmtheme2.mp3

The main change is on the choirs patch. See which one is better.

I think you should use soundtrack from "Ogniem i Miecze" movie. It's great and climatic.

Hi guys.

I have a LOAD of Renaissance music with hymns and cantatas in French and Latin.

I also have a few Mehter military march songs...not sure if it would be useful though.
