Looks like there's a problem with loading the text files into Excel and saving them back out again. I've uploaded the original excel files to the org, which you'll have to use in order to create error-free custom crusader_build_prod13 and crusaders_unit_prod11 files. These are files from the release version of the game and may not work too well with the demo.

One thing you should know, though - the files were created using Excel 2000, so earlier version of Excel might have problems reading the files.

these went into the Docs section, and there is plenty of tinkering going on with the stats at the moment, check it out,

I have yet to recieve a copy of the 16AD Start Date Stats
(I'm playing a campaign with them now - created as per instructions),
I'll upload Those tomorrow

(If you're wondering there were a truckload of files in the uploads folder, i haven't tested them all yet,
So i uploaded the most interesting ones untested, if there are any hiccups let me know
:-)

[did i mention it's now 4:30 am here? I woke up with a dire need for a cuppa - go figure - and turned the PC on while i drank it...]

So, if all I want to do is say add pikemen and halberdiers to the Byzantine production choices, all I need to to is go to the "Faction Association" column and type in "Byzantine" there along with those already there? And of course, save as appropriate? Thanks.

Grifman
PS Seems strange that Orthodox rebels have both of these as selections but not the Byzantines in particular http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I copy and paste myself but I have not tried
the xls file yet .You must maintain the
integraty of the file.i.e. u muck up the
spacing

Hey can anyone answer my question above about how to edit the excel files and save them for use - or point me to where this is explained? I'm new to this mod stuff. Thanks.

for targets excel files use excel,

but for the game files, which are excel, but it txt format,
simply edit in worpad and ignore the warnings when you save the file,

just make a backup first and don't delete any tabs by accident,
it's a messy looking file and meant to stay looking messy

Sorry, if I'm dense here. So I change Target's excel file. Then what? Do I save it as a text file? Is that all there is?

my notes,

I have had no problems editing stats files in wordpad, simply ignore all error messages from wordpad regarding saving the file,
and ENSURE you have all the TABS correct,
compare your work to an original and check you have placed your edit the correct number of tabs from it's neighbours,

if you cannot be certain copy the text out, then insert the correct number of tabs and insert your text BETWEEN the tabs!

and BEFORE you upload your creation CHECK the desired results occur,

and REMEMBER you cannot play online with an edited stats file, all parties to the game must have the exact same version or the program assumes you are cheating and will not let you join a game,
or if there is an error and you do succeed in joining a game you will go out of sync and be dropped just after deployment, Which ruins it for everybody,

Until the stats file in use (unit_prod) is standardised USE your originals only when playing online
:-)
