Ive found out how to log in to fakeserver 1st time, when using xp.

Your going to need a spare partition or hard disk, But this is how simple it is,

Find a free partition or hard disk you can format,
Format the partition or drive to FAT32 format,
Install your shogun WE/MI on to the fat32 drive,

And when you come to log on DONT tick the use existing interenet connection (unless you must)

You can now log in 1st attempt.

(maby will take more than 1 attempt But No more 30min login attempt followed by give up)

Origional shogun users dont need to do this and can log in 1st time any way,

Sorry its taken so long for me to find this out,

It sounds perfect, but I simply have no idea what you are talking about partitions etc... ~

your hard disk can be partitioned,

Imagine your hard disk is a big empty room Your gonna store your stuff in.
You can Partition this room by building a wall through the middle ,
Spliting it in to 2 rooms,

You can do this with your hard disk,
so you can partition one large drive in to a number of smaller drives,

And one of those partitions can be formated in to Fat32, instead of er NTFS format.

Heres the tried and tested way to the perfect log on....Ive posted this a few times in the past so please bear with me if youve heard it before ;)

From Multiplayer screen goto your log in name page and click connect
leaving the 'use existing internet connection' box unchecked, you then go
to the logging in message...and there it remains.
NOW...use the go back tab, check the use existing connection box and
as you click connect you must hit the return key at the precise same time.
(I start rapidly tapping the return key shortly before clicking connect until it actually goes to logging in screen) You now go to logging on and immediatly it will go to Logged On.This works 100% every time dont ask me how but I assure you that it does. Its all about timing with the return/enter key and clicking connect.
Hope this helps

Ive edited some settings for my server, And i can now get in 1st time every time,
No tricks or nothing,

I dont know if its becous I now have shogun on a fat32 drive, or becous of adjusted settings
Maby its a combination of both,

so if your like me and have a hard time loging in to fake server Even when you folow
Shin-GaiJin's log on techneique,

Maby you should try installing shogun on to a fat32 formated hard disk,

Well I don't have the problem but it's good to hear a break in the case! Keep up the good work and find out the specs of this method... I hope it'll work ~:)

there arent that many specs for the method,
lol its click Play on ea play, enter your name, then click connect.
And then it logs on,

So il just start typing and hopefully Il have explained everything you wanted to know :)

Hard disks can be formated in the begining there was FAT,
Then came Fat 16. And with 95 and 98 came FAT32,
With fat 32 you can only make a hard disk of a certain size,
I think its 8gb max.
So to use a 32gb disk you had to Partition it, This was done in DOS using fdisk,
you created a logical drive 1st, using up all the space on the disk,
then in the logical drive you created partition's.

using 8gb max for every partition As it would be fat32 you then have four 8gb sections in the logical drive,
You would then use Format and format the 4 partitioned drives as fat32

These would be virtualy detected as four seperate hard disks,
so earlier windows could then use the larger hard disks.

These days you can partition drives from within windows,

----------------------------------------

Windows 98 uses a fat32 file system,

But window NT uses windows NT F ile S ystem "ntfs"
and xp is built on the principles of NT
so xp uses NTFS as well.

Windows 98 cant see NTFS drives,
but NT and xp can see fat32

NTFS drives also use compression and indexing service's,
so access details from the disk difrently,
NTFS uses less sapace,
a 2gb file can be on a ntfs disk and take up only 1gb of space,
and you can format ntfs drives in to Large disks, No more 8gb limit.

So most people who can use NTFS will use NTFS.
I thought that this could be the cause of log on failures with xp systems that dont happen on windows 98 systems,
So i formated a spare hard disk to Fat32,
And installed shogun on to that drive,

now i can log in 1st attempt,

As for settings i changed, they were on the server side,
so they dont apply,

-----------------

A nother factor i am now taking in to concideration is the fact that origional shogun (not we/mi) dosent suffer from the log on problem,

This is some what Confusing to say the least,
And if i dont suffer from login failures any more i probably wont ever find out why that is :)

(my theory is,
As ntfs uses compression it takes a "ms" or 2 to decompress the files needed to open the foyer screen, And that milli second or 2 could be enough to fail log in. this would not be affected by internet, as it would concern only the game programing.
"thats why people start to log in but the game hasnt managed to tell the foyer the players name yet"
STW origionl has less units so less data needs to be decompressed, But that justs my theory)

Hope it sounds as logical to you as it does to me lol,

I have been able to replicate the login problem by leaving the name feild blank before attempting to connect to the server,
This some what confirms my theory about ntfs and fat32 drives,
But it is only circumstantial,
Never the less i thought id keep people informed,

Although im prety shure that The problem will now be fixed fro any 1 who can install shogun on to a fat32 drive.

ShambleS.

I lie
I dont get in 1st time,
Its actualy 1st or second time, :)

And it also seems to log in faster and easier when My family name is AdmiN

Bumping this up.
So more people may see it when browsing the forum.
Prehaps this could be stickyfied?

maybe you should make one post and fit everything about the fakeserver in it, all the info from the different threads on it. that thread should have a eye-catching title and should be stickyfied ~;)

LOL if i did that half the stickys would disapear from this forum.....
So it sounds like a good idea :)
I will probably do something like that.
