Greetings

I'm kinda new of teh forum (first post) but I'm one of those who like to mess around with games, as you all on this forum. Was trying to work a little MOD for MTW and crashed against the bif files.

Now, the bifreader found in the file archive is kinda nice (kudos to whoever made it), but while is ok for editing, is not so when one has to make a brand new shield. Now, gif and bif file, as far as I know, are closely related, wouldn't it be great if someone could code s imple gif to bif converter so one coudl work on teh graphics on photoshop and then simply convert them? I know older graphic programs (liek alchemy image) used to have the bif to gif and other way thing, but can't find them anymore (we are talking dos programs).. any programmer who could re-create such a thing?

Also, I've a series of gif shields (venice and Milan one being the nicest I managed to create), if someone want them to convert them into bifs...

Regards

G

i am not the athuority on editing around here so it would be nice if some1 else jumped in with an awnser but i believe if you save you new gif as a .bmp then you can import that to the bif editor.... then save it as a bif.

Hi

I appreciate the help but.. th eproblem is that the bifreader refuses to open the little bmp file saying I'm out of system resources. now, my puter isn't exactly the best of the line anymore, but shoul dhave plenty of system resources (yeah, I know, memory and system resources aren't teh same thing)...

Any suggestion, besides emailing the shields to someone able to convert them?

regards again

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that when you get the "Out of system resources" error message, it does not mean your are out of system resources.

It means "Windows has no bloody idea what just happened, have a random error message."

(Yes, I am a programmer. Could you tell by the cynicism in my voice?)

There's at least one other messages like that too (error that say something but mean "I don't know what went wrong"):

"Not enough storage space to complete this operation" (given when you have a 30 gig harddrive with 80% free)

It's getting warm in here...that must be one hell of an INFERNO!

you have to convert the gif to a bmp file,
there are plenty of freeware graphics converters,
try winfiles.com - it will "jump" you somehwere else (i think it's ZDNet, but i can never remeber - so i type winfiles and it gets me there)

The program wont read bmpfiles, neither renamed bmpfiles. Someone knows where to get a bmp,gif etc -bif converter?

Got one!

Visit www.Nicocuppen.com/downl.html (http://www.Nicocuppen.com/downl.html) !

Download Nico Viewer.

Load your Gif of Bif and simply save it in the other format!

Maybe this thing does it!

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

No Functional Bif-Editor on the Web! Has anybody an idea where I can find something better than Bifread so I can REALLY edit Bifs?????

don't quote me,
but these format have always seemed very Amiga to me,
i seem to remember early EA releases were ported from Amiga,

try Amiga tools that have been ported to windows,

the tools CA uses are proprietory, and very user UNfriendly

BifReader was written by RSW, and so many of us have found workarounds for the little glitches caused by OTHER programs messing up the pallette that it will most likely not be updated.
