Those drawings are beautiful!

Especially like the fist one. I am an artist myself and have always been fascinated by eastern style drawing.

Excellent work Tomte.

I must say that I liked the horse archer and the yari cavalryman the most with the naginata close behind.

More fantastic concept art from Tomte:

Yari Ronin

And here is the Teppo rônin.

Iga yari. Note the straw hat and coat which he wears over the armor as camo.

Iga yumi. Elite unit competent in both ranged and melee battle. Also adept at hiding.

And more exotic image of the Iga warrior.

For all of you who don't hang around on TWC, here are the general portraits I'm working on. Note that not all will use the same base, but I will make quite a few faces of the same to save time and be able to make more. Eventually I will also do historical generals. I've currently set myself to produce at least 2 a day. That will make quite a few when the mod is finished.... Or so I hope.:sweatdrop:

Random general 1:

Random general 2:

Random general 5:

Random general 6(Note the rabbit maedate with the giant ears. It's actually referenced from a real one. Crazy samurai...):

Random general 7:

Random general 10:

I'll save the rest for release, except maybe a few more along the way there.

That's really great artwork. You have a lot of talent!
About the Random general drawings I think they're nice with clear aging features and different armors. ~:)

This is a sample of my texture work:
https://img381.imageshack.us/img381/9799/texturesample1qk.jpg

This is a 'ni-mai dangae dô kuro ito gusoku'.:eyebrows: Everything seen in the texture(except the obi) is completely modifiable in terms of colors and patterns. For the clothing, which is all gathered and prepared on a seperate template, a number of pattern layers exist. These patterns are selected, each color field at a time, and then brought over to the originally white clothing, then the selected areas are recolored. Once the pattern and color-work is done, the clothing texture is resized and moved to the unit template for placement.

A similar procedure is used for the armor, which is also stored in a seperate template, where all parts(lacing, rivets, plates etc.) consists is their own layers. Every part is recolored seperately according to need, and then the finished armor-texture is moved to the unit template for placement.

With such a system produced for all texture parts needed, retexturing units for different factions can be done with both increased ease and richness.

You truly are the master of folds and creases!

About the faces, perhaps you could add another skin colour (or 2). With the current 2 colours the contrast is too great and my eye is drawn towards the cheeks (the lighter tone) as opposed to the eyes which is the natural focus of attention. That blind eye is a great detail though!

Yes great Texture Tomte :2thumbsup: but I think is better to use a bit more desaturated colours to avoid cartoniish look .... other than that it is great ^^

Duke John:

Thanks for the crits. About the shading, I can add a slight tone-up to the shaded fields around the cheeks, but I still want to maintain the simple line-work feel to the pictures.

Here's what I have to do also to bring back the details from the resizing:
https://img123.imageshack.us/img123/6260/portraittest6zd.jpg

The contrast of the fields have to be amplified to draw the shape of the face back out. But when the portrait reaches it's ingame size, it doesn't look to disturbing imo:
https://img436.imageshack.us/img436/4117/portraittest22lr.jpg
(note that a lot of space around the face will be cut away)

If it still feels wrong, don't hesitate to crit, this was a 10 second edit. ~;)

Prometheus:

Don't worry, this was just a display version. But when you say desaturated colors, you are refering to the cloth, right? Because the coloring on the armor is just about perfect I recon. Damn I would love to see it ingame. *hurries to finish the entire set*

I love artwork and concept art soo much so this thread is a huge + for me.
Just a suggestion and this likely is coming in far far too late, but would it be possible to include foreign generals amongst the ranks? Almost each of the 7 biggest clans had at least one.

Very Toll drawings! I awlays thought that the Iga clan was an expertise in Ninja and battlefield ninja and kunoichi, it is especially stressed in Kessen III that they were the lead in Ninjitsu arts.

Yes they do, however ninja come in many shapes and forms and iga also does have a small standing army of samurai as well. The ninja clans formed to support their miniscule and battered samurai army.

it is also highly debated whether Iga or Kaga lead in ninjutsu arts, but there is no questioning that some of the most famous ninja's in history came from Iga.
