Baktria CTD 243BC

[Conqueror]

It's 243 BC and I place an army on hills in Margiana in order to lure a nearby Seleukid army to fight. They come and I win, then the game crashes. After doing much testing, I've found some ways to avoid the crash and it seems that the placement of my army before the end of the turn is what triggers the CTD.

In the above screenshot, A is the original location of my army. B-E are (some of) locations that I've tried to move the army before ending the turn.

- If I stay in location A, the Seleukid army will attack and regardless of the outcome of the fight (and regardless of whether I retreat) the game will CTD, but not during or immediatly after the battle; it crashes while going through other factions' turns.

- If I move to location B, battle and CTD as above.

- If I move to location C, the Seleukid army will not attack and there is no crash.

- If I move to location D, the Seleukid army will not attack but the game CTDs anyway!

- If I move to location E, I get a battle and a CTD as with locations A and B.

Now this is where it gets really interesting:

- If I hire a mercenary archer unit, and leave it in location A, while the rest of the army moves to location D, then Seleukids do not attack and there is no crash.

- If I remove the generals from the army and move them to location C, while the rest of the army waits in location A, Seleukids do not attack but the game CTDs anyway.

So the CTD happens both in scenarios where there is a battle and in ones where there isn't. And army location effects if there is CTD or not, but placing a mercenary unit in a different location or dividing the army will also have an effect. The outcome of the battle didn't have any effect in my tests. (All battles automatically solved to defeats and victories)

I've gotten the exact same thing, but with arche selukid. The came CTD's due to the certain movement of armies.

Try following the instructions here (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=40497). Take over the Seleucids or some other faction and see what exactly causes the crash.

THe movement of armies, that's what causes it. When you do perfect spy, you can see all the queued movements of the CTDing faction. If you cancel all the movements, then the CTD does not happen. If you let them play out,however, the game will almost always crash on one or two specific army marches.

Not in my case. I tracked the CTD and seemingly it happens on Epeiros' turn. But when I took control of the faction and imitated what I had seen them do, there was no errors. Instead, the game then crashes immediatly as I hit the next turn button. The next faction after Epeiros (and the last faction in the queue) are the rebels. That means the crash actually happens right as the rebel faction's turn begins, but happens so fast that I never even get to see their faction icon pop up. It might be caused by rebel armies spawning (I think they spawn on the rebel's turn) which might be affected by the placement of armies on the campaign map.

Following the alternative instructions, I downloaded File Monitor and ran the CTD scenario one more time. Here's the last ~200 lines from the output:

How did you track it? I don't understand what you put. The crashes you described before are exactly what happened to me. Are you saying that the rebel spawining is behind the disguise of the army marching crash?

In my game, the Rebels turn was far away from the problematic faction.

By tracking it, I mean that I observed the other factions movements w/ fog of war turned off. The last thing I saw before the crash was Epeiros moving it's troops. So I first thought that that was the cause.

But then I took control of the Epeiros faction by "console_command control thrace" and moved their units around myself, bought mercenaries and buildings, etc, without being able to trigger a CTD. But as soon as I try to advance to the next turn the game crashes - and the next faction down the queue were the rebels.

That the spawning of rebel stacks could be the cause of the CTD is speculation on my part, but I doubt it could have anything to do with the marching of Epeiros' armies because:
1) I couldn't replicate it myself and
2) ordering the Epirote armies to sit still didn't prevent the CTD

When I took control of my CTDing faction (which was the Arche Selukid) I also noticed the game crashed upon the movement of one of their armies.

I stopped the movement of that army and the game did not CTD.

Hmmm. Conqueror, did you make sure no Epeiros moves were queued to occur at the end of your turn? Did you try controlling the rebels and seeing if it still crashed? If the answers turn out to be yes and yes, it's probably a rebel spawn problem.

I had moved their armies around myself so there wasn't any movement left, though I'll check one more time to make sure I didn't miss a stack somewhere. And I'm not able to control the rebels: when I set the controlled faction to "slave", activating the script doesn't end the turn but leaves me controlling Epeiros.

EDIT: double-checked and now I'm sure I had all the Epirote armies ordered standing still, including the ones in cities. None of them would march anywhere at the end of the turn.

Now I'm getting the same bug again - this time in Summer 239BC. It's the exact same thing, with the crash happening right at the end of Epeiros/start of rebels turn. And again, I can "switch" the CTD off by placing my army in a slightly different location.
