I am currently between home purchases at the minute and staying with friends, hence the lap top thread, who don't have internet access or even a phone line and I am looking for an e-mail service, like hotmail, that I can use in the meantime.

I have hotmail atm but it is blocked on my work computer and I was hoping someone could recommend a similar service?

Thx

It may be just as blocked as Hotmail, but 9 out of 10 geeks prefer Gmail (http://mail.google.com/mail/). If you need an invite, almost anyone here on the Org would be happy to give you one, Lemur included.

For getting past pesky workplace web filtering, the Lemur recommends web proxies (http://www.the-cloak.com/anonymous-surfing-home.html).

Yup, my choice would be Gmail or Yahoo (or, why go to the effort of having to make a choice? Have both ! :2thumbsup: ).

Yahoo is okay, I guess - and I expect them to try harder especially now since they've got serious competition from Google.
Though their search engine (searching through your emails) sucks pretty big time.

Also, be advised that most proxies do NOT offer free services for encrypted connections (i.e., SSL). That means that you won't be able to login to some sites through the proxy (unless you cough up the dough). But for everything else, they're ok. There's a bunch of them out there.

www.inbox.lv is cool. I love the address.

I use Yahoo, and it suits my needs perfectly. No need of other stuff.

Using Gmail for quite some time now, and am quite happy with it.

As Lemur said, if you need an invite, just ask - this counts for anyone by the way.

My son uses Yahoo happily, but I've been using Excite (http://www.excite.com/) for years, since the mid-1990's. Like almost all of the free web-based e-mail providers, you have to deal with the advertising - but it's not much bother. Excite also has branches in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Gmail. Resistance is futile.

I use both yahoomail and gmail, but Gmail is drasticly better.
