Attaching a External Hard-disk

I'm wondering if it is at all possible to attach a external hard-disk to my laptop. And if so how would I do it, I have a spare hard-disk but how would I attach it?

Off course you can if your laptop has usb 2.0 connection. I can't say from my head which manufacturer is best, but I know that Western Digital is strong positioned.

I just looked at second largest Serbian computer dealer (http://www.pakom.com/KatalogProizvoda/OpisProizvoda.aspx?sifra=0508106) - Western Digital Ext.USB Essential 2MB/80GB for 97,47 € (with included vat). And this hd use external power.

So, you just connect external USB 2.0 2.5" HD to your laptop and HD connect to power supply and your problem is solved. Windows XP will found new hardware automaticly.

Instead, you may convert/deconvert any PC hard disk to external using a USB box. I bought one supporting both SATA and Ultra ATA for about TL 50 inc. the 18% VAT (convert yourselves (http://www.xe.com/ucc/)) and have been using it pretty efficiently. You may use such a system with any USB supporting desktop or portable computer. :yes:

Yup, that's about the price range you can find USB boxes for hdds: between 20 and 40 bucks, afaik.
Should also consider a USB card if your mobo doesn't support USB 2.0, otherwise the transfer speed will be really crappy (speaking from experience :) ).

Yes, it's Turkish Lira (XE.com lists it as TRL, sorry).

Even USB 2 won't match the speed of a humble IDE but it's at least better than USB. ~;)
