View Full Version : The Real Senators

Just because I'm intrigued, just who really is sitting behind the reigns of those avatars? Who are our senators? What's the real face of our Roman Republic?

Well..I'm not sure about the rest of you yet, but here's a glimpse at the youngest generation of the Aemilii, in the flesh.

Lucjan - AKA Servius Aemilius

And of course, behind every good Roman man, there is a good Roman woman. She hasn't appeared in the game yet though. :sweatdrop:

Hopefully this senator will get to leave home and go on campaign when his schooling is done, built like a soldier at 6'1" and 180 lbs, the enemies of Rome should be fearful! But for now...he's just hanging around with the some-day-to-be-an-Aemilii girlfriend.

Here is a picture that hangs everywhere around my office building, informing the filthy thieves that this coffee mug belong to me, and me alone !

That's my trophy mug from Spitsbergen. I bought it when I sailed up to 79.8 degrees north. If anyone breaks it I will have to go back and get another, and it's COLD up there (and incredibly beautiful) ! So I am slightly, or as my collegaes say, insanely, paranoid about it. Working in an IT company, most pictures have been scanned, photoshopped and replaced within a day and are now carrying any picture you can think of, so many people come wandering up to me asking if their mug belongs to me.

Anyway, enough about my prized possession, that handsome fellow holding the mug is Lodewijk, AKA Lucius Aemilius. I am head of maintenance in a company called Realworks, which handles most of the real estate data in Holland.

Since this is a history forum, here's a historical photo: me at Antietam National Battlefield.

My wife and I are both attorneys for the Board of Veterans Appeals in Washington DC.

DDW - You work in real estate and still have time for rome? :dizzy2: You're a better man than I, I worked in real estate for a few months doing transcriptions for re-appraisals, very time consuming stuff.

TinCow - Can't say I've been to Antietam, but I have been to Gettysburg, checking out those old battle sites really gives you a perspective on the whole scale of old world combat and the complexity of combat in general. Not quite as simple as it is in Rome, and really makes you think about the genius of victorious generals. Terrain is everything in war, and in places like Gettysburg where the terrain changes every 500 feet or less, it's so much more complex than people generally imagine...

Guess I had better add myself here, so as people can show their children and say, "This is what you will turn into if you play computer games!" My six year old son took this with his fingers over the flash just to see what would happen. Rather frightening.

And yes, I have to add my wife, enjoying her favourite activity near our house...

And the large blue thing slung around her is this...

Our three month old daughter, Sylvia. I have three older children but in truth I don't want this to become a slide show!

Great to see you all, hope to see others on here who haven't quite yet added themselves.

Nice pictures everybody. It's really interesting to see the diversity of people with our common interest. Hopefully we could get a few more faces in here. :2thumbsup:
