The second period begins in 1337, when a long history of troubles between the two powerhouses England and France has drastically boiled over into all out war, destined to become arguably the most famous conflict in Medieval history, the Hundred Years War. It is not as simple as this however - each side has their allies, and the smaller states on the Continental Mainland, including Brittany, Burgundy, Flanders and Navarre are destined to become embroiled into the conflict at some stage. France in particular will look to the 'Auld Alliance' to undo England, as the Second War of Scottish Independence has been ignited in Britain, with the Scots recently suffering a bad defeat to Edward III at Halidon Hill. Europe is about to become one giant battlefield.

Elsewhere, the Norse dominions of Greenland is on its last legs, hampered by climate changes, increasing native attacks and pure isolation. Mali has become the dominant state in Western Africa, while above the Sahara the Marinids are enjoying success under their great ruler, Abu Al-Hasan 'Ali ibn 'Othman. In Ireland the Anglo-Irish Earldoms after the Norman Invasions hold much land, and have forced the original Gaelic inhabitants onto the fringes. Around the Alps, their is a sleeping giant in the shape of the newly-independent Switzerland, while Milan also have emerged on the scene as arguably the most powerful Italian City State. Much further afield, across the Atlantic, the Chimu Empire is in decline while the Aztecs have emerged as the most powerful state in Central Mexico, taking up the mantle of the Toltec Empire after it was destroyed by the Chichimecs.

Here are the planned heraldic designs for new factions. If not mentioned they will be the same as 'Angevin Ascendancy' or remain unchanged for the original game. The Marinids will share the Almohad flag.

I notice from some of the pictures of the game that coat of arms are on the shields, this might be an interesting addition

Yes, perhaps since nations obviously had numerous heraldic devices for families and whatnot we could find alternate ones for that? I also notice some banners are slightly different also, for maybe for someone like Switzerland say we could use various Canton flags.

regarding the swiss cantons flags: not the best choice since many of our cantons (yes, i am swiss) and their heraldry came only into existence a few hundred years after our emergence as a late medieval power. if you want it then i can post a few links to origninal swiss heraldry. for the most part, french and HRE heraldry is quite similar to ours.

example can be found here: http://http://web.telia.com/~u86011563/Bilder/Wappen.html

Could you add "Coastal Empire of Cilicia" please?

and whats Lord of the Isles and Desmond about?

I take it you mean Cilician Armenia? The map doesn't stretch that far. The Kingdom of the Isles encompassed the Gaelic-Norse Western Isles and parts of Argyll and the Earl of Desmond was a Anglo-Gaelic Earldom in the South of Ireland
