Can't Log On

Hey,


I got MTW2 today, and I tried to log on,but it always was saying

"Failed to Logon"


What should I do??

in other news, dont put ur name into the secion underneath "LAN battles" , make sure caps isnt on, and try closing MTW2 and re-opening it a few times.

You're getting the error message:
"Login failed - invalid CD-key"

Right this is how to resolve (with thanks to various posters)
You cannot change the cd-key ingame anymore (most likely for the protection against illegal games), so you have to do other things.

Open Start
Click Run
Type: regedit
Now go to this: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/SEGA/Medieval II Total War"

Now you'll see a value representing the CD-key. Change it to what it should be. You could have done the following wrong:
-Don't type spaces
-Do type the "-"s
-Don't use "o"s use "0"s (zero)
-Type everything (except for the numbers obviously) in capital letters

Make sure your online name doesn't have more than 20 characters.

I got A Firewall up.... I don't got 56K or DSL, I got 8 MB Cable, like requried.... Got no Background programs running... Might be my Firewall,might not... Thank you Mr.Stig..

I shut off my Firewall... turn it on Normal (because I had it on tight).... I got 8 mb Cable... may sure no programs were running in the background and I still can't log on... Mabye it my CD key,but it doesn't say anything about it.. Any help guys??

i used to get the same problem and it said sth else

so i found that strange and did the following

1st line - my gamespy name/id

2nd line - my email

3rd line - i usually wrote first my cdkey (and the failed logon appeared) and that went on for till just moments ago. now instead i wrote my gamespy password and it logged on! the strange is i had attempted this too before and it didnt logged in anyway.

So is the gamespy account password the thing to write in the 3rd line?? does this mean, that contrary to previous TWs the cdkey is no longer a must to play online?? If so, damn those 50 euros i just spent on this game :furious3: loool jk, CA deserves every cent even though their original games could be so much historical. good thing we have good modders in this community:2thumbsup:

of course i did... but that is easily (or less easily) done with a crack file too, as with any other game. And even if not, i could get out of the net one cdkey just to install the game.

and then i'd have no problems playing online since that cdkey is no longer restrictive to one player at a time, for each cdkey, as with any other (tw) game.:smash:

That all it saids to me.. I got the Right CD key I used for Installstion, right P/W,etc...

I had to go in and change my letters to upper case, in order to get online. The other thing I had to do was open port 27750 on my router, otherwise I got the nat negotiation error. Now all is good.

do you have administrator rights? It might have to do with that

Still can't log on, I am just asloustbly Dumbfounded why I can't log on. When I shut my Firewall off, I Tried just 1 time, and it actually did look like it was going to log me on,but it wasn't,sadly..

Warman, try creating a new gamespy account with a short and simple name, to see if it isn't something silly about the length of your name or all the symbols.

ok, how do I get to port 27750 on my ZoneAlarm Firewall??

You don't need to unblock specific ports for that firewall, you just make sure that it allows MTW2 internet access under program control.

And if you have a router, you'll have to open 27750 on the router too. Check your installation manual or use Google.
