Perhaps you can find some of the information on this Ottoman Empire thread (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252131) useful. I know it's a longish thread, but hides some very cool info and links to other threads, sites and graphics in which you can use as well. Cheers.:juggle2:

In reign of Suleiman the Magnificent Ottoman Empire started to use more and more Janissary troops armed with firearms.
In Suleiman the Magnificent reign, number of Janissary armed with firearms was raised from 16 to 37 000 men and number of Sipahi fall from 87 to 45 000 men. From 1590 elite Ottoman units used firearms.
Ottoman Empire in the beginning of XVI century was only state in Europe with standing army.

In second half of XVI century Istanbul had 800 000 inhabitants. :book:

Trade

Spice trade is dominant trade in Ottoman Empire. It was direct trade between Ottoman Empire and India and Indonesia.

Bursa, Effes and Smyrna are important trade centers where merchants from Venice and Genoa had their trading posts.

The most important trade wharfs of Ottoman Empire were: Istanbul, Damascus, Aleppo and Alexandria. In those cities were highly developed trade of silk, wool’s textile, brocades and spices.

It will be updated...

Hello there!

I've written several papers on the subject of Ottoman Empire during my studies at University. It was some time ago now but it is still a fascinating empire. I hope Pike and Musket will aim to correctly portray its special ways.

Basically the most important things when it comes to Ottoman Empire in a mod such as this is:
Very dependent on their Janissaries. Balkan boys taken from their families and formed into islamic beliefs becoming very loyal to the sultan. Their discipline and effeciency is undoubtly the best in all of Europa until way into the 17th century where eventually more modern armies started to arrive in Europe. Thus I hope janissaries are made to be stronger than all regular muskeeteers in europe. Other troops apart from their cavalry, Sipahis are just meat for the enemies cannons more or less. Cheap and weak, making up the numbers until Selim started recruiting more Janissaries and making them a regular army instead of the elité.

During the 17th century european armies, especially when they reach flintlock should be as strong or stronger.

Ottomans and Habsburg should be the strongest powers from the start. Eventually joined by France. Ottoman economy was great until the spanish mines in america destroyed their economy and indian trade started to change route over the seas instead. Administration and rank was unlike europe based on meritocracy. Thus historians regularly claim they were superior to europeans until this system changed and the empire started to lose power.

Ottomans allied themselves with France against habsburg even though they both were of different religions. Ottomans really were quite tolerant of other religions and thats one of the reasons the spanish jews fled to their empire.

So to be historic ottomans should be the strongest exotic power, constantly threatening the european powers with their janissaries. But if spain or other powers find alternative ways to the rich India trade, or if the gold from the mines in america finds it way to europe to create inflation or if the ottoman empries internal meritocracy crumbles the Ottomans could quickly become the weak state that it became during the 18th century.

I'm sorry, this got quite long. But I'm very interested in this project and especially the Ottomans. Thus I'd be glad to discuss this subject again.

Don't worry the Ottomans will be one of the superpowers in the mod (together with Spain, France was engulfed in civil war at that time).:book:

Of course that power will be balanced with the sheer number of their enemies .
