Hello. Instead of dealing with Gamespy, who wants to play online via hamachi?

http://www.hamachi.cc

We can make some MTW2 servers in hamachi.
(case sensitive)
name: m2tw1
pass: m2tw

name: m2tw2
pass: m2tw

Join! And let's play without worrying about gamespy's servers.

why would it be illegal? it's just a program that lets you play network games.

All sorts of copyrights giving gamespy some sort exclusive stuff I believe.

I'm not sure though.

it shouldn't be illegal

It's not illegal. Since when did Gamespy copyright multiplayer gaming? I doubt such a legal action is even possible.

It's not illegal.

If it is, LAN games are illegal in the first place lol.

Also, hamachi doesen't work right off the bat with MTW2 you have to go to your preferences.txt and change your network ip to your hamachi ip.

Meh well ok then, but tbh I've had no problems with GameSpy yet and I've been playing for over a week.

No legality involved, same with the fakeservers used to play STW/MI. If enough people use it and it works well (smooth 4v4, no desync) the current server has to improve or it will lose its players. Some reports would be appreciated

Just wondering how it works, I'm a total noob concerning fake servers. Is the lobby the same as the gs one? :dizzy2:

I just dload this and installed it. I think we should keep this as a backup, when GS is acting up, ie: like right now!
I found this at the forums for Hamachi.

"Open medieval2.preference.cfg at the root of medieval 2 directory.
find "use_ip" under the [network], it should be empty.
change it to use_ip = "your hamachi ip", for example: use_ip = 5.112.32.42
Everyone should do the same for their configs, using their own hamachi ip, not yours.
Play. Razz"

"You might drop from the lobby, but when the game starts there should be no disconnecting. We tried a short game, not sure if you drop on the longer run."

Why would it be any different in the game itself? From what I understand all Gamespy does is the lobby and connecting people to available games, all the in game stuff would be handled by the game itself? It wasn't unusual for me to get a message saying I was disconnected from Gamespy in RTW while actually playing a game, but it never effected the game in progress.

Hamachi might be something to use in an "emergency" when you have to play a game, but normally surely you'd probably prefer to actually getting a game in Gamespy instead of just hanging around hoping one of the other 3 people who use it log on. ~;)

I agree with cow, it will be impossible to gain enough awareness of this for it to actually be effective. Gamespy is just a lobby feature, it doesn't have anything to do with lag.

No, hamachi is very effective alternative to Gamespy... you just need to be in enough networks.
