20:18:20.500 [system.rpt] [error] Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.

I've been following the adding new unit tutorial, and I've got this message, where or what is a .rpt and where could I be going wrong? :help:

system report. unspecified means it doesn't know how to define it. how far along are you in adding a new unit? you may need to start over again.

if it's crashing, i'd say you haven't finished. we need to find out where the error may have occurred. was there anytime you loaded the game during the creation process to check the status that it didn't crash?

basicly I tried copying some sudanese tribesman stuff, and replacing some things, but somethings obviously gone wrong

my suggestion would be to try it in a sort of reverse engineering way. follow the tutorial TO THE LETTER. create and add the exact same unit he did the exact same way he did and see if it works.

if it works, then go back and begin to make changes. if it doesn't then you know you've done something wrong and it just becomes a text comparison to find the problem. adding new units is very dfficult and time consuming. it doesn't take much to crash it.

ah! I believe i found the problem, it is my model, deleting what I typed in lets the game run. woo! I'll be pilling over that for the time being

straight away looking at it I'd say those lines are wrong, possibly other lines as well I haven't gone through the whole thing. isn't the number before scotland an indicator that a string is following of a certain length? the 5s and the 4 should be 8s, no?

I had trouble after screwing around in this file, after restoring the original I had to delete the two weather files listed in the patch readme as well so if you're thinking of restoring then that might be something to consider!

Did you make sure there was exactly one space before and after that block?

yup. Now I am afriad I must scream, and call it a night. Tommorow (christmas) hopefully I'll have some luck

I don't have to put it in a certain place (like alphabetically) do I?
