View Full Version : Map bug question?

I've come across a couple of things whilst modding maps which may be bugs but want to know if anyone else has encountered these problems. The image below shows two problems which are circled in red.

The first problem is a river problem. Seen from certain angles the river is 'dry'. If I move the angle then the river will reappear.

The second problem is the little black bar that sometimes appears on the map. I haven't worked out what does this and I've definitely also seen this in the vanilla map (I saw it in the southern nile area).

Anyone else encountered these or resolved them?

How can you view different angles?

Anyways, my bet's on the heightmap. Try changing the height values around those around those areas, maybe it helps (and it doesn't take too long :P)

In response to your how do you view different angles question. - you move the view from left to right or zoom in or out.

I see this the black bar bit on the vanilla map also and I need to check but I think its vanilla with the HGT in also.

I need to convince myself that both of these always occur at the same location but I'll try the heights thing although I don't see why it should be connected - and I'm seeing it quite a bit in relatively flat areas. My hunch is its memory although I've got 2 GB in my machine.

I haven't spotted the rivers thing in vanilla but the black bar definitely appears there.

Well I'd think the tiles consist of two faces each and they're not connected, so if they don't fit well you may get some weird problems. That was the reasoning behind my assumption.
Could also have to do with ground types mebbe.

I've seen the black bar on lots of different ground types so not really sure what is causing that. I'll probably try and test that out on some bland (i.e. same value) heights and ground type maps at the weekend and see if I can track down the problem. Question though have you spotted either of these issues before? Particularly I'm curious on the black bar bit as I can certainly find them on the vanilla map - I guess I need to try out different graphic settings etc to try and check if its related to that also.

I mainly posted to see if anyone else had encountered the issue. (I never spotted the black bars on the vanilla map until I went looking for them!).
