Saw all these great AARs for EB, and figured I'd try (a less great) one of my own. I like playing isolated factions, and building an empire out of the way before running into other factions, so the Sweboz seemed a natural choice.

The Germans lived on the edge of the world. While the Greeks and Phoenicians formed empires far the to the south and east, and the Celts at times to the west, they remained divided into small tribes, heeding little the news of mighty empires rising and falling in distant regions. However, in 272 B.C. a conversation started by the leader of the Sweboz would plant the seeds of change, and start the rise of a new empire, a German empire…
In the Sweboz capital of Swebotraustasamnoz, in the home of the Kunningaz.
“Slave, tell me again about these people to the south, that call themselves ‘Romanii’” Heruwulfaz ordered.
“You know everything I know, Lord. They are a people that have come to power in Italia, conquering most of their neighbors. The king of Epeiros challenged their control of the peninsula, but after winning their first battle, the Romani raised another army and defeated him.”
“And these are the same Romani whose capital had been occupied by the Celts of the Po valley?”
“Yes, lord.”
Heruwulfaz frowned. Ever since a port had been built in the Sweboz capital, traders from far off lands had been trickling into his territory, bringing news of the world, and even this very foreign slave he’d bought. While news of all foreign lands was of interest to him, there was something about these Roman people that fascinated him.
Turning to his advisor, Heruwulfaz asked “What make you of these men of small stature who come back from defeat to rule the peoples around them.”
“Lord. They may be small of stature but they are great of spirit. Defeat only makes them more determined, and through such determination they have made their people a great one in their region. We could do the same. The Heruskoz embarrassed us in battle last season, but we are still a larger and more powerful tribe than them. We could raise up a mighty war band, and conquer them and our other neighbors. The Sweboz could be a great nation like those of the Romani and Greeks.”
Heruwulfaz smiled. Yes, he thought, I like that idea.
