Saw all these great AARs for EB, and figured I'd try (a less great) one of my own. I like playing isolated factions, and building an empire out of the way before running into other factions, so the Sweboz seemed a natural choice.

Rules:
VH/M
No replaying battles

The Germans lived on the edge of the world. While the Greeks and Phoenicians formed empires far the to the south and east, and the Celts at times to the west, they remained divided into small tribes, heeding little the news of mighty empires rising and falling in distant regions. However, in 272 B.C. a conversation started by the leader of the Sweboz would plant the seeds of change, and start the rise of a new empire, a German empire…

In the Sweboz capital of Swebotraustasamnoz, in the home of the Kunningaz.

“Slave, tell me again about these people to the south, that call themselves ‘Romanii’” Heruwulfaz ordered.

“You know everything I know, Lord. They are a people that have come to power in Italia, conquering most of their neighbors. The king of Epeiros challenged their control of the peninsula, but after winning their first battle, the Romani raised another army and defeated him.”

“And these are the same Romani whose capital had been occupied by the Celts of the Po valley?”

“Yes, lord.”

Heruwulfaz frowned. Ever since a port had been built in the Sweboz capital, traders from far off lands had been trickling into his territory, bringing news of the world, and even this very foreign slave he’d bought. While news of all foreign lands was of interest to him, there was something about these Roman people that fascinated him.

Turning to his advisor, Heruwulfaz asked “What make you of these men of small stature who come back from defeat to rule the peoples around them.”

“Lord. They may be small of stature but they are great of spirit. Defeat only makes them more determined, and through such determination they have made their people a great one in their region. We could do the same. The Heruskoz embarrassed us in battle last season, but we are still a larger and more powerful tribe than them. We could raise up a mighty war band, and conquer them and our other neighbors. The Sweboz could be a great nation like those of the Romani and Greeks.”

Heruwulfaz smiled. Yes, he thought, I like that idea.

272 B.C. A council of elders was held, and Haruwalfaz convinced the other Sweboz chiefs to raise two great warbands to expand the power of the tribe.

The young, untested general Athawufaz, son of one of the main war chiefs of the Sweboz, is given the smaller of the two bands, and sent to take the island of the Rugoz. Meanwhile, Haruwulfaz’s own son Ansuharjaz is sent to avenge his tribe by taking the settlement of the Heruskoz, to the southwest, and take the Holy Stones, the Erknahammaraz.

They must conquer quickly, for many debts had to be called in, and many favors asked, to raise such a large host of Sweboz warriors. If they don’t receive plunder soon, the Kunningaz may have a rebellion on his hands.
Athawufaz is the first to reach his target, and before the siege has gone on a year, he assaults the island city of Rugoz.

Rather than cower in their town, the Rugoz decide to risk it all in an all out charge.

Although they fight bravely at first, their cowardice shows when they flee back to the town center.

Fighting is fierce in the town center, but the Sweboz eventually wear down their enemies, and cut down the Rugoz chief, curiously armed in the Greek fashion.

Rugoz is added to the Sweboz empire!

With reinforcements brought by the war chief Hrabnaz, Ansuharjaz assaults the city of the Heruskoz. The city gates are quickly battered down and Sweboz warriors swarm into the city.

The few warriors sent to hold are men at the gate are quickly sent packing and fighting moves to the town center, where in their haste to run down the fleeing cowards, several Sweboz units find themselves isolated and surrounded.

Things look bleak temporarily, a unit of Sweboz spearmen reaches the town center to reinforce the men fighting there. They unleash a hail of javelins on the Heruskoz, then join the fray, turning the tide of the battle back in the favor of the Sweboz. After a long struggle, the Heruskoz are defeated and the city and its Holy Stones brought under the control of the Sweboz. In return for the victory, Ansuharaz pledges to build a temple to his patron god Wodan.

Extent of the Sweboz Empire, 267 B.C.
http://123pichosting.com/images/8189image091.jpg

271-267 B.C.
At the years pass the Sweboz empire grows stronger and stronger. Tribute and warriors fro newly conquered settlements allow it to grow at a fantastic pace. Ansuharaz and Hrabnaz conquer the city Hakuboz, and important trading site and valuable addition to the empire. King Heruwulfaz himself, restless sitting in the capital city, ventures north and takes on the Skandi people of Kimbroz and Skandzawaz, bringing them under the dominion of the Sweboz. The mines and trading pier of the latter in particular enrich the empire.

Diplomats are sent to the south. Trading rights and map info are exchanged with the Romans, Aedui, and Macedonians, and an alliance with Epeiros. The name of the Sweboz begins to grow among the other powers of the world.

However, not all has gone well for the Sweboz. rebellions among the newly conquered tribes are common, and valued general Hrabnaz falls in a battles against the Amphistameoi. His death has been avenged, but his loss will continue to be felt.

Wars against neighboring tribes have ravaged our lands, and our cities depopulated as their young men die in battle. Now is a time of consolidation, and our newfound riches shall be used to build up our territories, before resuming conquest.

Good luck with this AAR from me too! I liked that slave of the king. Is he still alive?
If I'm allowed to give a little hint: To get rid of those green arrows, you have to go into your Game-folder, then choose "EB", "preferences" and the txt-file preferences. In there you have line called "Disable_Arrow_Markers:FALSE". Change "FALSE" into "TRUE" and the green buggers are gone.

Thanks everyone. Things have changed a lot in the past decade or so. Rebel territories in the mainland are disappearing quickly and my guess is the Sweboz will clash with at least one of their neighbors pretty soon.
:shame: Unfortunately, between school and work this week my play time will be limited, but I should be able to get at least a few updates up this week.

Quirinus Kuhlmann Yep, the Sweboz faction leader starts with a "foreign slave" ancillary, so as long as he's alive, she is. :whip: Foreign slaves must be getting popular among the Sweboz aristocracy because one of my generals has acquired one.

Thanks for the tip. I'll make sure to turn the arrows off before I start playing again. Never was able to figure out how before. :dizzy2:

:sweatdrop: Uh oh. Get sick and stuck doing a couple reports over the weekend and .81 comes out. Does anyone know if the Sweboz have changed significantly in the new patch? I may have to start over.

I don't believe they have. One skin was changed, though there weren't any other noticable alterations.
