This thread is for the discussion of what Portuguese units should be put in Medieval Total Realism.

One of the few things the vanilla version had as historical accurate was the description of a long skirmisher/javelin tradional fighting style. Anoter was sea technology.

In middle medieval times there were two main alliances although these "alliances" at that time were more than pro-supportive positions between the involving countries.

The two alliances were the castello-french alliance and the luso-english allaince.

In short(in very short), while england and france had the ground military power, castele/leon and portugal had the sea technological advantage, because they had galleys(espicially portugal because of the sea impact on it's economy and society) and with those galleys sea control and comertial control was possible through out the french and british coast.

Shortly before the battle of Aljubarrota, and this is an excelent example of what sea dominance can do, a portuguese fleet(galleys, approx 160 oarmen, with slingers and a platoon piece with bowman) was sent to the southern british and the coast of normand to some extent in order to clear the sector of french ships that were severely isolating england comertially(as england during those times was severly cut of from trade on the continent). They were successfull, and as a reward they were allowed to recruit mercenaries from england and in the battle of tarrancoso english bowman tactics were first introduced, they were successfull and british tactics were introduced in full extent in Porugal.

This is only an example, but it could give us some vage background about portuguese military ups and downs as well as evolution of military tactics, methods and technolgy used in middle medieval times.

By the way these are middle medieval descriptions, although portuguese technology in the sea was already superior before those times.

My questions are if the team will put some kind of military update feature for instance, we would have three stages:

Early medieval.

Middle medieval.

Late medieval.

By the way, is it even possible to give factons sea unit superiority?
