I just spotted the news on VoodooExtreme. Medieval:Total War does make more sense.

Crusader doesn't seem to be the word of choice, possibly because of the situation of now.
We would'nt want to upset them muslims now would we,heaven forbid.

*briefly wonders about the influence of the PC element*

Aah, I'll just go forth and change the name. Even though the proper spelling would be MediƦval: Total War. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

I particularly like this part of the annoncement: "Medieval: Total War will offer exactly what it says on the box." Right - the same way STW did? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

And by the way - now the correct spelling of "medieval" will continuously hit everyone in the face, on the top of every forum page. The people who insist on misspelling it "medievil" are hereby declared legal targets for rotten vegetables. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Wow, finally some news about the game and a new thread that really is discussing some aspect of the game (even if it's only the name). I think i am going to cry..... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Wow, I didn't even notice the name change.

I even came in here thinking it said crusaders.... Attention to detail!

Okay, so the name has been changed to better encompass the scope of the game, and besides that we are now politically in compliance with the sensitive nature of the current conflict. That's great but WHERE'S THE BEEF!
I find it hard to believe that all that has been accomplished in the development of this game so far is deciding on the name. How about some real news, all I see so far is fluff.Hello, is anybody listening?

Actually the change could mean a much bigger game in the works. If I'm right, this could be far more exciting.
CA might be scared that when the game is released, you'll turn on CNN and see some Taliban holding up a copy of CTW http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif.
If the subject is Medieval, man those CA boys have got their work cut out for them. Crusader was big enough.

Actually Clink it was always more than the Crusades, which is one of the reasons for the name change.

i hope they change it something a little more catchy that medieval beforethe actual release, even tho it is a bit more accurate. take the current title, shogun:total war. the word shogun basically tells us you're in japan, and playing during the time period of samurai and such. at the time of the original release, a more accurate title may have been sengoku judai, but it's ovious why they didn't go with that. the word medievel just doesn't work; it's clumsy, and grammatically is an adjective/descriptive rather than a subject.
[i]crusader[/] was/is the better choice, but the current situation probably necessitated the name change, so it's understandable.

Dunno about anyone else but calling the game "Medieval" as opposed to "Crusaders" invokes a much better mental idea for me as to what the game could involve and doesn't make the game sound so one-dimensional...i'd buy it either way though http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

you know how they came up with the first title, 'what do we remember medievil history for?'
'100 years war?'
'no - too English'
'Frankish Empire'
'like anyone remembers..'
'okay...Crusades!'
'great! - crusader: Total War, sounds catchy'

I mean - what else did medievil princes aspire to, apart from asprations to become Emperor (of the Holy Roman Empire)
so maybe...

Emperor: Total War

or we could concentrate on the eastern scene...

Mongols: Total War

(very un http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif)Holy Warrior: Total War
Emperor: Total War (two emperors)

too obscure...and thats not the aim of the game anyway...

we could be obvious...

Knight: Total War

to be honest, it was all about crusades!
maybe we could get melodramatic...

Total War: The fall of Byzantium
Total War: Rise of the Turk

they could just scrap the naming pattern (of one game) and call it Total War: Medievil Edition (sounds better anyway)

In fact, why not Emperor: Total War?

Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire
(the highest position in christendom)

Emperor of the Byzantine Empire
(The last vestiges of Rome)

Emperor of the Mongols
(or whatever they called it http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif - we all know what they want http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif)

Emperor of the Turks
(Do you have what it takes to crush Byzantium and take the mantle of empire?)

hell - it IS better than Medievil anyway http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

How about Dark Ages Total War?

Slyspy
11-12-2001, 08:45
The Dark Ages are not the same as the medieval era I'm afraid. The medieval period could be called the Middle Ages I suppose, but such a title would suggest a game for the over forties only. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

A Newbie to STW, (is having trouble on normal), but already deciding to get Medeival, when is it coming out?? When i started playing this i thought, hey this would be even better with Knights and Barbarians, Turks, Persians, Romans, ya know, all those Empires of the Middle and Dark ages. Wuddaya know, maybe they read my mind! Hurry I can't wait to give you my money...errr...play it. Good day all!

and oh yeah, Dark Ages is "dark" because we don't know much about this time. it wasn't until the peoples in europe regained stability after centuries of fighting that historians started writing about what is known as the Middle Ages.
