me either. wut do u mean mob tactics?? like the Gansters in the 20's. Drive by with tommy guns, and sleepin with the fishes?? HAHA, i'm just kidding i know wut you mean, but i don't really think its going to be mob. In the since that tactics were used in the Medievil times, its just that some were just stupid and lost because they didn't use tactics and strategy, maybe if they could read chinese, they would have understood Sun Tzu's "Art of War",

btw, could Napoleon read chinese, hehehe.

hey - I got a reply http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

what I was trying to find (but obviously failed) was someone supporting the view that medievil armies only used mob tactics, because I didn't agree - hell, I'll try to be clearer in the future...

Hmmm, I don't think you can just say medieval tactics was this or that.

Shurely different tactics would have been used in different areas and different times.

I wonder if not early "tactics" of "norsemen" would have been about using mob tactics, trying to overcome the enemies with ferocity and surprise... ???

GAH! Just as Shogun was based on Sun Tsu's teachings, Medieval TW will be based on those of Machiavelli.

Read 'The Prince' and yee shall find what you can expect in the game (sorta)...

Only that Machiavelli wrote his books in the 15-16th century http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

..and Machiavelli was frequently high off his ass. And that he wrote "The Prince" primarily as a way to try and worm his way into favor with the new Florentine rulers.

Good book no doubt, but you can't put it on a real pedastal as far as military matters are concerned. I mean, the guy's favorite idea, that of native levy armies, failed miserably in practice (though it was to be the way of the future).

I've heard murmurs of a Machiavelli book entitled "The Art of War". I think I even saw it.

I'm sure it's much inferior to Sun Tzu's, coming from someone who made no pretentions to actually being a warrior. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
