It would be great if the game would include knight units for both mounted and dismounted combat. Why not be able to dismount some or all of your knights before the battle? This was frequently done as a matter of course throughout the 100 Years War. The unit stats could change during setup along with the appropriate graphics.

How about it?

Sounds good to me. But I'd call it a lower priority than some other things they could do..

Agreed. Knights on foot could be much more useful at times dismounted (Crecy and such.)

I'm for it!

So given that Shiro agrees with Sir Kuma who agrees with Shiro who agrees with Nelson and agrees with Khan7 who also agrees with Nelson we can conclude that Shiro agrees with himself which is a good thing I guess. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I think it would be relatively easy to do. As you deploy your troops, when you place the cursor over certain mounted knight units an option box could appear that allows you to dismount. If you say yes then they turn into some well armored infantry unit. Otherwise they remain heavy cav.

I disagree with all of you - Knights should only have the option on fighting on magic carpets - anything else is flagrant disregard of fantasy and therefre unacceptable http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

No, the magic carpet units belong exclusively to the Turks.

yeah, but do you let the knights get back on their horses again? will you need squires running around with step ladders to help them back on? or even cranes for some of those really heavily armoured knights? and who holds on to the horses in the meantime?

Or,how about units of knights with no horses but equiped with empty coconut shells only to simulate the sound of heavy horses trotting, like in the Holy Grayle.

Well this thread sure headed off into the weeds. So I'll bound off after it. I saw Holy Grail on the day it opened and the audience was given coconuts when we left!

As for remounting I would say no. The decision would be made for the duration of the battle. I beleive there were always plenty of attendants and whatnot around to manage the horses. Knights often had more than one anyway so somebody was always tending the spares.
