On this site: http://www.euratlas.com/summary.htm
[thx to LordStephen, a guy on .Com) I have found some good maps of Medieval Europe.
Really kewl.

I am posting here the map of 1200, which is kinda the 'best' one for generalising this era of Medieval Europe. There are much more on that site. Finally we can clear some doubts on peoples/kingdoms/factions. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Note on Roman Empire.
At a time the old roman empire was divided into the Western and Eastern roman empire. The Eastern Empire was also called Byzantinium.
The Western empire died out, while the Eastern continued to exist until the Ottomans came in...

During 1200, only the Eastern part existed so it's just called "Roman Empire". In other words, the "Roman Empire" are the Byzantines

Cheers,

Tera

P.S.

I think we can now conclude that 'germany' is represented in the Holy Roman Empire. Period.

EDIT: The Islamic Almohad are mainly the Moors then. The Moors controlled part of Southern Spain until the Reconquista of Spain under Isabella and Ferdinand of Aragon.
Those Moors who remained in Spain had been forced to become Christians and were known as the Moriscoes. Later on they caused trouble (revolts, rebellions against the racism and discrimination towards them) and were exiled from Spain along with the Jews.

That's a beautiful map Tera.BTW where is the mighty kingdom of Malta http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
Is it that little pair of islands just south of Sicily and north of the Emirate of the Beni Ghaniya?

Gah
See the map of 1500 + http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

Malta was under Sicily at those times. And Sicily was later under Spain. Malta was under Spain. Then Knights of St John came (see map 1600) and took over.

In M:TW I believe Malta will be first part of the Italy faction and later Christian Spain. Or either one of those ronin islands.

GAH! The Byzantines never referred to themselves by that name. They called themselves Romans, as did their contemporaries. The term 'Byzantine' is one that we have given them in modern times to differentiate them from their predecessors, the TRUE roman empire.

But... yeah, the 'Roman' empire on the map is what we could call the Byzantine Empire... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif
