give us the simpliest battlerecorder possible, this will allow us many things. especially new players can figure out why they lost again!

Battlerecorder would be sweet. No need for further comment or explanation http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

yeah we could really use one - it'd take up a lot of memory though...

Indeed, soly. I remember trying to record battles in Homeworld. Oof.

I'm sure it's possible, though, and that's the main thing.

The idea is sound. The question is one of how - and to that I suggest still pictures intermittently taken - so that when combined in sequence one can see what was going on. These would need to be overhead shots with all units on both sides visible. Doing this would allow direct and quick writes to your HD should u turn the recorder on - and could be done without dragging your machine down.

Think a tactical map of a naval engagement - you will get the picture.

I think naval forces are only in the strategic screen.
No tactical naval battle, sic...

dont make this thing too complex, just to reduce the use of resources make it that u only output the x-y positions and some other minor stuff every 15-30 seconds...

One good way of doing it would be like in Gettysburgh/Antietam. No need of all the sprites, just a colored rectangle with an overhead view would be fine. Of course we still need the option of ffwding the battle.

yes, even an ascci representation from an overhead perspective would be fine for this. minimum resources used, yet a full representation of the battle. or, you could do both by simply recording the pertinent data, without sprites and map, and then in playback mode you add in the sprites and map again. simple.

Even if it were essentially a blown-up real-time recording of the minimap, I'd be happy. The best thing would also show unit facing, formation (close, loose, wedge), a rough indication of the number of rows, and a little counter showing the number of men left. I would shower praise upon CA if they delivered such a thing. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I would like a battlerecorder, but before that I want them to make sure most of what they promise now is implemented correctly. If they have time left after that, I'm all for a recorder.

I agree. A lot of things would be nice, but they should focus on what they already have, instead of jumping from idea to idea with out polishing what they already have

HWC did it and the only negative effect was that it slowed down 4v4 games. I saw no change in 1v1 2v2 3v3

i think it must be implimented in some way.Not a matter of wanting 1,its a must.
Like we said nothing too complex,rec.stop,ply back,fast forward,slow motion,pause http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

OOOPPPSSS! we already got fastforward and pause http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Also possible to save more that 1 click before it overwrites it.say after 10 maybe.
Hope they will shed some light on this? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/redface.gif

From what I see, one fully functional recorder will be in MTW, since the present one is meant more for debugging.. hmm.. what are they debugging actually? whether the men ran in the wrong direction?
